Purpose

The intention is that students come away, competent in teaching dynamic vinyasa public classes, including advanced asana, with an awareness of how to tailor the practice to address the strength and mobility training needs of an athletic population.

What to expect

Students should come away with a strong understanding of what is anatomically safe and useful in an active yoga practice, including more gentle applications designed for aging or recovery from injury. Students should understand that breathwork impacts the nervous system, and be able to choose appropriate pranayama for the needs of their students, and specific class type. Students should feel confident with the basics of sequencing safe and effective yoga classes. Students should be familiar with the eight limbs of yoga as taught by Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras.

Style/Lineage

The Wilmington Yoga Center’s Empowered Vinyasa teacher training is anchored in the yoga tradition of Krishnamacharya as disseminated to the United States by B.K.S Iyengar and Pattabhi Jois. Notable teachers of influence to the program’s author and lead trainers are Seane Corn, Shiva Rae, Tiffany Cruikshank, and Kathryn Budig. The style of yoga offered in this training is a dynamic vinyasa style influenced by strength and mobility training, balanced by practices for physical and emotional restoration. The tone of the teaching is motivating, empowering, and permissive.

Additional Information

There are no prerequisites to attend the program, but a basic foundational yoga practice will be helpful. We offer a flexible payment plan, scholarships and we can take students through the MyCAA program. Required readings, pre-training zoom videos and live meetings will be set before the start of training begins.
