Purpose

Atlas 200 is a four-month, 200-hour teacher training for students who want to build a confident teaching practice and deepen their own relationship with yoga. Training happens in person, online and through supervised teaching. Trainees learn to sequence and lead classes with purpose and develop a teaching voice of their own. The program also covers yoga’s history and philosophy and how its teachings apply to everyday life, including its use as a tool for regulating the nervous system and building awareness.

What to expect

  • 200-hour teacher training over 4 months

  • 8 in-person weekends, 8 Wednesday-evening Zoom labs, and 24 hours of supervised teaching, practicum and mentorship

  • Weekend hours: Fridays 6–9 PM, Saturdays and Sundays 11 AM–8 PM

Additional Information

Core competencies

By the end of this program, graduates will be able to…

Teaching Skills
  • Distinguish between what is actually happening in the room and what was planned, analyzing which observations call for appropriate changes in instruction.
  • Construct a cueing script for a short movement sequence that integrates verbal and visual instruction, ensuring every cue invites participation and serves a clear purpose.
  • Demonstrate a posture or movement clearly for a group, emphasizing the key actions students need while keeping the demonstration brief and visible.
  • Analyze the pacing and energy of a class segment, distinguishing moments that flowed well from those that felt rushed or stalled.
  • Use principles of intelligent sequencing to build a safe and understandable progression, connecting each pose and transition to the purpose of the class.
  • Apply a theme and intentional music choices, creating a class that weaves philosophy, breath, music, and silence into a cohesive experience, keeping every element authentic and purposeful.
  • Offer props and adaptations so that every option supports the intended function of a pose, presenting each option without implying it is inferior.
Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics
  • Compare joint actions across different posture families, assessing how skeletal variation affects the expression of a pose, and justify why alignment will not look identical in every body.
  • Apply principles of functional alignment to a posture, using muscle action and biomechanics to support safe and effective movement.
  • Examine how different breath patterns influence nervous-system states, differentiating calming effects from activating effects with sound physiological reasoning.
  • Explain how prana, the koshas, and the chakras offer complementary maps of the subtle body, describing what each framework helps a practitioner notice.
Business Skills
  • Explain the relationship between valuing one's teaching and sustainable compensation, describing how fair pay supports a long-term teaching life.
  • Explain how authentic marketing and community building support a sustainable teaching career, describing the connection between trust and student loyalty.
  • Apply principles of sustainable scheduling to map a realistic teaching week, balancing teaching commitments with personal practice and rest.
Lifestyle & Ethics
  • Analyze situations in daily life or teaching through the lens of the yamas and niyamas, citing specific principles as evidence for ethical choices.
  • Explain the boundaries of a yoga teacher's scope and the dynamics of teacher-student relationships, describing why clear limits protect students and teachers.
  • Examine one's values, voice, capacity, and qualifications, distinguishing a genuine teaching identity from an imitation of others.
Practice Skills
  • Analyze one's own movement patterns across posture families, distinguishing areas of ease from areas that need adaptation or support.
  • Explain the effects of foundational pranayama and the principles of safe progression, describing when alternatives to a breath practice are appropriate.
  • Practice a foundational meditation technique with sustained attention, maintaining a steady posture and returning to focus when distracted.
  • Practice Yin postures with appropriate props and time in shape, honoring functional intention and pausing for rebound between shapes.
Yoga History & Theory
  • Compare earlier and modern expressions of yoga, distinguishing continuities and changes in emphasis with evidence from the tradition.
  • Apply a teaching from the Yoga Sutras to daily life or teaching, connecting the principle to concrete actions with clarity.
  • Use a teaching from the Bhagavad Gita to illuminate a choice in daily life or teaching, conveying the principle clearly and respectfully.

AYC allows each school to state and evaluate the competencies each student acquires. Students rate how well the program delivered them.
