Style/Lineage

Yoga teacher training is a life-changing experience. This training is unlike any other, not only will you gain skills to lead classes with confidence, cueing skills, intelligent sequencing, and the ability to hold space for all walks of life, you will learn in unique space, take field trips, and have lots of hands-on practice. Your personal practice and your understanding of yoga history, philosophy, and lifestyle will grow. This training focuses on Vinysasa from the Ashtanga yoga lineage and originated by Patanjali, it is its own modern-day form of yoga.

Yoga History & Theory
  • Apply each limb of Patanjali's Yoga to a personal practice routine using one example per limb.
  • Guide a short meditation that moves a student from sense withdrawal into focused attention.
  • Build a short sequence that helps a student discover steadiness before ease.
Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics
  • Compare two directional terms that describe opposite positions on the body.
  • Explain why the abdominopelvic area is divided into smaller regions.
  • Describe how the vertebral column supports posture from the neck to the tailbone.
  • Explain how the shoulder and hip joints allow a wide range of motion.
  • Identify which muscle group is active during a specific standing pose.
  • Build a modification guide that adapts poses for common joint concerns.
Practice Skills
  • Compare how alternate nostril breathing and equal breathing each balance the mind.
  • Examine the cautions for each energizing technique to identify shared risk factors.
  • Compare the tongue and lip positions used in cooling and hissing breath.
  • Guide students to hold a grounding gesture during a seated meditation.
  • Guide a student to use a heart centered gesture during a moment of grief or stress.
  • Guide a student to hold a clarity gesture while setting an intention for practice.
Teaching Skills
  • Examine a planned cue for wording that could confuse or mislead a new student.
  • Design a full class outline that moves logically from philosophy through anatomy to practice.
Lifestyle & Ethics
  • Compare non-violence and truthfulness to see where the two practices can conflict.
  • Compare self discipline and surrender to see how they balance effort and release.
Business Skills
  • Build a simple policy document that defines scope of practice for a new studio.

AYC allows each school to state and evaluate the competencies each student acquires. Students rate how well the program delivered them.
