Purpose

The program's purpose is to help trainees deepen their knowledge of yoga, strengthen their personal practice and discover their own unique voice as teachers. This foundational training prepares trainees to step confidently into a leadership role in the classroom. It also equips them to pass the physical, mental and spiritual benefits of yoga on to their future students safely and effectively. Throughout the training, timeless yogic values guide every lesson. Ahimsa, or non-harming, places student well-being and safe, welcoming spaces first. Satya, or truthfulness, calls teachers to lead by example and represent their qualifications honestly. Svadhyaya, or self-study, encourages a lifelong commitment to practice, reflection and inquiry. Equally central is a commitment to inclusivity, ensuring that every student feels respected and accepted regardless of race, religion, gender, background or physical ability.

What to expect

The 200-hour curriculum offers a well-rounded education built on 180 contact hours and 20 non-contact hours. Trainees spend 100 hours on techniques, including asana, pranayama, chanting and meditation. They spend 25 hours on teaching methodology, 20 hours on anatomy and physiology, and 30 hours on philosophy, ethics and lifestyle. The program also includes 10 hours of practicum and 15 hours of electives that reflect the program's specialized focus. Trainees complete reading assignments from 10 required textbooks before each workshop, including The Heart of Yoga and The Yamas and Niyamas. They also log studio practice hours under a Registered Yoga Teacher and engage in ongoing practice teaching, or Karma Yoga, beginning with family members and close friends. Trainees attend all scheduled modules, arrive on time in yoga clothing and maintain a respectful, focused classroom presence. Physical participation is not always required, but active observation is. Through email updates, a dedicated Facebook group and online discussions, trainees join a supportive community where questions are welcomed. Early nerves are a normal part of the process, and trainees receive steady guidance as their confidence grows.

Style/Lineage

The Find Your Edge Yoga, LLC 200-Hour Teacher Training Program is rooted in the teachings of Sri T. Krishnamacharya, widely regarded as one of the premier yogis of his time. Krishnamacharya called yoga "India's greatest gift to the world" and championed adapting practice to each person's needs. This program builds on this premise as it takes a deep dive into special populations, ensuring you are equipped to teach yoga to all populations. Grounded in Hatha Yoga and shaped by a Vinyasa-flow emphasis, the program also draws on the wisdom of foundational texts, including the Vedas, the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita and Patanjali's Yoga Sutras. Rather than promoting a single philosophy or style, the training integrates these traditions. Trainees explore the rich history behind each one and learn how to make yoga relevant for modern students.
