Purpose

The 300-hour program is an advanced continuation for teachers who want to deepen their expertise and serve a wider range of students with skill and care. A primary goal is to strengthen anatomical knowledge so teachers can recognize individual differences between bodies, identify areas of tightness and tension, and understand how each posture affects the body's systems. The program also trains teachers to lead trauma-informed classes. These classes are safe, predictable and respectful spaces where students keep full choice over their practice. Teachers ask permission before every assist and help students move from a reactive state to a responsive one.

Equally central is building the confidence to teach special populations, including:

  • Seniors

  • Students living with chronic pain

  • Athletes

  • Women navigating hormonal changes

  • Children and teens

  • Pregnant students

What to expect

Anatomy: Trainees can expect a rigorous curriculum that blends deeper study with hands-on application. Anatomy modules examine the spine, nervous system, muscular system, feet, knees, pelvis, shoulders and brain. They also cover how postures influence the circulatory, endocrine, respiratory and skeletal systems, including Iyengar's "squeezing and soaking" principle. Subtle anatomy adds study of the koshas and the chakra system. Trainees are introduced to assessment tools while learning to stay within their training limits.

Trauma-informed methodology: Trainees practice invitational language, consent-based assisting and mindfulness practices. They also learn to guide Yoga Nidra and iRest with a smooth, authentic voice rather than simply reading a script.

Special populations: Dedicated modules cover the following groups:

  • Seniors: Using props such as walls, chairs and blocks

  • Chronic pain: Understanding the link between stress, the nervous system and pain

  • Athletes: Working with students who may let ego drive them to push too hard

  • Women's health: Addressing hormonal cycles, menopause and osteoporosis

  • Kids and teens: Using age-specific class formats for ages 3 to 18

  • Prenatal: Learning modifications so teachers are prepared when a pregnant student joins a class

Advanced pranayama and techniques: Trainees refine techniques such as Kapalabhati, Ujjayi and Nadi Shodhana. They also learn to apply bandhas, mudras and meditation.

Hands-on teaching skills: Trainees learn to find the "sweet spot" in assists, sync adjustments with the breath and stay close to students during balancing poses and inversions. They also gain experience designing specialized workshops of their own.

Trainees join a supportive community of dedicated teachers and receive steady guidance as their expertise grows.

Style/Lineage

The Find Your Edge Yoga, LLC 300-Hour Advanced Teacher Training Program builds on the lineage of Sri T. Krishnamacharya, who believed yoga should be taught according to each person's unique needs, temperament and physical capacity. Krishnamacharya urged teachers to "teach what is in you," not as it applies to themselves but as it applies to the other. His most influential students carried this vision in distinct directions: B.K.S. Iyengar through precise alignment and the therapeutic use of props, Pattabhi Jois through the breath-driven Ashtanga Vinyasa series, and T.K.V. Desikachar through the individualized, sequential approach of Viniyoga.

At the advanced level, trainees move beyond the history of these traditions and into their practical application. Desikachar's call to "meet the students on the mat" and his principle of vinyasa krama shape how trainees read the energy of a room and sequence with clear intention. Patanjali's Yoga Sutras ground advanced pranayama study in Sutra 2.50 and reinforce the dual qualities of ease and steadiness in every posture.

The program also explores several deeper teachings:

  • The five koshas, the layers of being described in the Taittiriya Upanishad

  • Rod Stryker's teachings on directing and containing prana through the three primary bandhas

  • Traditional Yoga Nidra rooted in Swami Saraswati's Tantric teachings

  • Richard Miller's iRest Yoga Nidra protocol

Together, these influences give trainees a richer, more integrated understanding of yoga as a complete system for body, mind and spirit.

Teaching Skills
  • Design a class in a chosen style, Ashtanga, Restorative, and/or Yin with appropriate pacing and prop use, remaining faithful to the intention of that style throughout.
  • Design a trauma-sensitive class that prioritizes choice, safety, and interoception, aligning every element with trauma-informed principles.
  • Develop a plan for creating a consistent classroom atmosphere, integrating space, tone, and presence in a coherent approach.
  • Create a cueing script for a key posture that weaves alignment, breath, and the yamas, maintaining clarity and consistency throughout.
  • Design an original class sequence using a sequencing worksheet, integrating theme, peak posture, and closing in a safe and coherent flow.
Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics
  • Construct a teaching explanation linking a practice to its effect on body systems, such as skeletal, muscular, nervous, respiratory, and circulatory systems, maintaining anatomical accuracy and clarity throughout.
  • Assess individual students' range of motion and structural limits, justifying modifications with sound biomechanical reasoning.
  • Design a chakra and vayu practice that integrates postures, breath, and meditation, aligning each element with core principles of energetic anatomy.
