Purpose

This is your launchpad for personal and professional growth. Gain knowledge in functional body alignment, anatomy, yoga history and philosophy, and how to lead a safe, fun, empowering class experience.

What to expect

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

Yoga Philosophy for Modern Life: Explore post-classical yogic teachings in a way that’s accessible, relevant, and inspiring. You’ll study foundational texts and concepts and learn how to apply the teachings meaningfully to your own life and practice.

Meditation and Pranayama: Develop a personal meditation practice and learn breathwork (pranayama) techniques that promote presence, clarity, and energetic balance—tools you can pass on to your future students.

Anatomy and Functional Movement: Understand the body in motion and learn how to observe, assess, and support different bodies in a yoga class. This includes foundational anatomy, common movement patterns, and how yoga supports healthy, sustainable movement.

Intelligent Sequencing and Teaching Techniques: Learn how to design safe, effective, and inspiring class sequences. You'll explore peak pose, theme-based, and energetically balanced sequencing along with the skills that bring a class to life—voice, pacing, cueing, and more.

Cueing for All Levels: Practice clear, inclusive language that supports students with varying levels of experience and ability. You’ll learn to offer variations, avoid over-cueing, and teach with both structure and freedom.

Props and Hands-On Assists: Discover how props can make yoga more accessible and effective. Learn the art of safe, respectful hands-on assists that deepen awareness and connection.

Practice Teaching and Feedback: Build confidence through regular teaching practice. You’ll lead sequences, receive constructive feedback, and grow through direct experience—learning by doing in a supportive, encouraging environment.

Living the Practice: This training isn’t just about learning to teach—it’s about becoming a more present, empowered version of yourself. Through self-inquiry, group connection, and embodied practice, you’ll leave transformed and ready to share yoga in a way that’s authentic to you.

Additional Information

Core competencies

By the end of this program, graduates will be able to…

Yoga History & Theory
  • Explain how yoga evolved from ancient sacred traditions through the Hatha and Ashtanga lineages into the contemporary Vinyasa format taught in YogaSix programs.
  • Explain the differences between Classical Yoga and Tantra, and describe the YogaSix approach to yoga philosophy.
  • Explain the five koshas—Annamaya, Pranamaya, Manomaya, Vijnanamaya, and Anandamaya—and describe the unique qualities of each layer. Explore how these layers work together to form the multidimensional nature of the self.
  • Explain the Eight Limbs of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, outlining the role of each limb and how they collectively guide practitioners along the path to samadhi.
  • Explain the ten yamas and niyamas, and describe how these guiding principles can be applied to support intentional and ethical living both on and off the yoga mat.
Teaching Skills
  • Apply YogaSix Conscious Communication and I-Statements to foster effective, authentic communication in the practice room and in everyday life.
  • Develop a personal teaching style that authentically embodies the YogaSix methodology while reflecting the teacher's own voice, presence, and areas of depth.
  • Demonstrate a range of assists for foundational and standing postures, maintaining clear communication, student autonomy, and anatomical safety throughout.
  • Evaluate a partner assisting experience using the YogaSix skillful assisting criteria and provide specific, constructive feedback to the assisting teacher.
  • Evaluate and enhance personal teaching effectiveness through self-reflection, peer feedback, and facilitator feedback throughout the training program.
  • Evaluate a facilitation experience for the quality of presence, responsiveness to student needs, and effectiveness in creating a safe and sacred learning container.
Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics
  • Explain the structure and function of each movement system—including the skeletal, muscular, and connective tissue systems—and their collective role in yoga practice.
  • Explain the principles of structural alignment that distribute load safely across joints and how skeletal variation affects how students access poses.
  • Explain how anatomy concepts from all three intensives connect to create clear, safe, and effective alignment cues for complex postures in Vinyasa.
Practice Skills
  • Evaluate a complete Vinyasa class sequence for effective wave progression, pacing, breath-to-movement integration, and alignment with the YogaSix three-wave methodology.
  • Evaluate the safety and accessibility of a complete posture offering for a mixed-level Vinyasa class, recommending modifications across all included categories.
  • Guide a group through each of the four pranayama techniques using clear instruction, effective cueing, and appropriate pacing for a general yoga audience.
  • Explain the benefits of regular meditation practice and describe how different techniques—including breath-based, mantra-based, and movement-based forms—serve different student needs.
  • Explain the primary components of the subtle body system, including prana, the major nadis, and the seven chakras, and explain their roles within the energetic body.
Lifestyle & Ethics
  • Explain the foundational principles of Ayurveda as they relate to yoga, and explain how doshas, lifestyle rhythms, and seasonal awareness can support balance, health, and personal growth.
  • Apply knowledge of major yoga styles—including Power, Restorative, Yin, Slow Flow, and Vinyasa—to make informed class programming recommendations, selecting practices and formats that align with a student's unique needs, goals, and life circumstances.
  • Analyze real-world teaching scenarios and professional interactions, along with the business, professional, and ethical responsibilities of a yoga teacher, including liability, scope of practice, professional boundaries, and student safety.
Business Skills
  • Evaluate personal growth across the eight weekends of training, identifying key insights, meaningful integrations, and remaining areas of curiosity and exploration.
