Purpose

Yoga means to join. And to join is to heal.

The Avita Yoga Teacher Training combines practical movement, therapeutic application, breathwork, and embodied awareness to support joint health, greater mobility, and peaceful self-awareness.

What to expect

Avita Yoga has roots in the work of Ida Rolf, whose study of yoga informed the development of Structural Integration.

Over time, Avita Yoga has evolved through the practical application of anatomical, physiological, and movement-based principles that use time, pressure, breath, and thoughtful movement to influence the fascial network, support joint function, strengthen bones, and improve neuromuscular coordination.

The method emphasizes adaptability, awareness, and sustainable change rather than performance or force.

Style/Lineage

Yoga means to join. And to join is to heal.

The Avita Yoga Teacher Training combines practical movement, therapeutic application, breathwork, and embodied awareness to support joint health, greater mobility, and peaceful self-awareness.

Additional Information

Core competencies

By the end of this program, graduates will be able to…

Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics
  • Identify the bones, ligaments, and joints of the shoulders, hips, knees, and spine, and explain how they articulate using correct anatomical terminology
  • Explain how Avita Yoga shapes are used to address joint restrictions, unwind compensation patterns, and support greater freedom of movement by describing the relationship between posture, tissue response, and movement variability
  • Describe how breath, movement, and relaxation practices support parasympathetic regulation and vagal response by explaining their effects on the nervous system
  • Explain the anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system and its relationship to movement, circulation, and joint health by describing how breath, muscular contraction, and mobility practices support lymphatic flow and overall tissue health within a yoga context.
  • Explain the Avita Yoga approach to joint health and tissue adaptation by describing how pressure, time, and thoughtful movement influence circulation, tissue response, joint mobility, and compensation patterns within a safe and progressive movement practice
  • Describe the functional roles of the major flexor and extensor muscle groups of the feet, legs, hips, spine, hands, and arms with accuracy and anatomical clarity.
  • Analyze how joint restrictions contribute to compensatory movement patterns throughout the body, demonstrating cause-and-effect relationships across connected anatomical regions with clarity and accuracy.
  • Apply foundational Avita Yoga shapes and movements to improve joint mobility, reduce compensatory movement patterns, and support long-term joint function through safe, intentional, and anatomically informed practice.
Yoga History & Theory
  • Explain and compare the principles of Avita Yoga breathing and the Buteyko breathing method, demonstrating accurate understanding of their physiological mechanisms and therapeutic applications.
Teaching Skills
  • Differentiate between pain and constructive therapeutic sensation and guide students in applying appropriate responses to ensure safe, effective practice and self-regulation during movement.
  • Plan and conduct effective private and group Avita Yoga sessions that demonstrate instructional competence, adapt to student needs, and foster measurable improvements in confidence, self-awareness, and regulated states of relaxation.
  • Assess and interpret student movement patterns and physiological responses to identify risk, guide safe modifications, and evaluate measurable improvements in mobility, comfort, and functional movement quality.
  • Teach foundational Avita Yoga shapes and movements using adaptive instructional strategies that accommodate diverse student needs while ensuring safety, accessibility, and measurable engagement in mobility and body awareness practices.
  • Observe, listen to, and respond to individual student needs in real time by adapting instruction responsively to support safety, alignment, and effective skill development.
Practice Skills
  • Practice foundational Buteyko breathing techniques to cultivate breath awareness and support autonomic nervous system regulation through controlled, measured, and observable breathing practices.
  • Reflect on and describe somatic sensations and emotional responses during practice, and evaluate how these experiences contribute to self-awareness and perceived emotional regulation.

AYC allows each school to state and evaluate the competencies each student acquires. Students rate how well the program delivered them.

Program Emphasis

Evaluation methods

Program evaluations
  • Written Submission
  • Graded Skill Demonstration

The reason we test is to inspire learning. There are five written quizzes throughout the program. Students practice teaching from the beginning and receive feedback from Jeff throughout the program. The goal is to learn how to conduct private and semi-private sessions, both online via Zoom and in-person. It's very focused because private teaching skills are easily generalized to larger groups.

AYC Evaluations

AYC also requires the following experience for Level 2 Yoga Teacher badges:

  • 4+ years teaching experience
  • sessions taught per year
