Core competencies

By the end of this program, graduates will be able to…

Teaching Skills
  • Identify and teach the key parts of the BambooMove Sequence, including warm-up, peak pose, and closing, while incorporating creative variations.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of a peer teacher’s verbal cueing by rating it on a rubric that measures accuracy, tone, verbiage, warmth, and student response.
  • Apply basic hands-on assists for common poses on a peer partner, using proper body mechanics and obtaining consent beforehand.
  • Apply appropriate modifications for an all levels class when working with students who are at beginner, intermediate, and supported levels.
  • Apply a structured observation framework during a peer-led class to take notes on at least three students’ alignment and engagement throughout the session.
  • Teach a minimum of three complete group yoga classes to at least three students each, using a prepared lesson plan and collecting student evaluation forms.
Yoga History & Theory
  • Evaluate the role of asana within the full eight-limbed system and assess whether modern yoga culture accurately reflects its intended purpose and place.
  • Evaluate your personal relationship with a chosen niyama—such as tapas or svadhyaya—by reflecting on a specific experience and measuring growth over the course of training.
  • Analyze how different schools of yoga philosophy—including Vedanta, Samkhya, and Tantra—offer distinct views of the self and the goal of practice.
  • Explain how each of the four paths offers a different entry point to self-realization and describe which path or combination tends to suit different personality types.
Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics
  • Apply knowledge of joint mechanics and muscular engagement to explain safe alignment for the knee, hip, and spine in common standing poses.
  • Analyze how the concept of the koshas, nadis, chakras and vayus offers a more complete picture of the student than a purely physical approach to yoga.
  • Create an original alignment guide for challenging poses that shows safe entry, active engagement, and mindful exit in plain language.
Practice Skills
  • Demonstrate correct form and breath coordination in asanas, entering and exiting each pose with steady, conscious movement, evaluating how breath pattern and degree of effort or tension can affect the practice.
  • Identify and teach the major pranayama practices —including Ujjayi, Nadi Shodhana, Kapalabhati, and Bhramari, bhastrika— evaluating the appropriateness and effectiveness of breath instruction, timing, language, and techniques.
  • Explain how regular meditation practice changes the relationship between the practitioner and their thoughts, and describe the traditional goal of meditation within yoga philosophy.
  • Explain how regular meditation practice changes the relationship between the practitioner and their thoughts, and describe the traditional goal of meditation within yoga philosophy.
Lifestyle & Ethics
  • Apply dosha theory to recommend general lifestyle adjustments—such as grounding practices for a Vata imbalance or cooling practices for a Pitta imbalance—to a wellness-seeking student.
Business Skills
  • Apply a personal code of professional conduct for your teaching practice that references BambooMoves standards and addresses touch, boundaries, scope of practice, inclusivity, and student privacy.
  • Apply personal brand and niche concepts to write a short bio and teaching philosophy statement that clearly communicates your signature teaching style and intended student audience.
