Purpose

Fluid Mind & Fluid SpiritHow can we let go of fear, craving and attachment in order to become happier and more content?

The Fluid Mind approach begins with a foundational understanding of Tibetan Buddhist mind training, and continues to explore the science of meditation, the foundations of practice, and specific meditation practices (including shamata, maitri/loving-kindness, and tong-len). A Fluid mind is present and adaptable to change—qualities that lead to happier living and more refined yogic practice. We often think of life as static snapshots that are put together to form a bigger picture but in reality the nature of life is flowing from one moment to the next. Since life is fluid, we can all benefit from discovering a way of life that moves with the forces of nature instead of against them. Fluid Living teaches us to move effortlessly through life in a way that creates happiness within ourselves and those around us. This module uses experiential learning and real world examples

What to expect

Fluid BodyHow can we move our bodies in an enduring and mindful way throughout the entirety of our lives?

An approach to movement that allows for freedom and exploration while aligning the body in a safe and efficient manner. Unlike a mechanical or precision based alignment, this approach to movement honors the dynamic nature of the yoga practice and keeps the body safe without disrupting flow. With simplicity in mind, Fluid Body provides students and teachers with simplistic methods for understanding safe alignment. Acknowledging that the safest alignment starts within the mind, you will learn how to listen carefully to your own body to make the intuitive adjustments as your body moves.

Fluid TeachingWill I be ready to teach a yoga class?

Fluid Teaching recognizes that teaching, like life, is a dynamic and moving experience and that each of us have something unique and special to offer. Our approach to teaching provides the tools needed to become a great teacher and bring the best of your experiences, talents and offerings to light. Additionally, you will be part of a strong community of like-minded teachers, a sangha, who will support you every step along the way. The relationships you form will last a lifetime!

Core competencies

By the end of this program, graduates will be able to…

Teaching Skills
  • Design an original class built around a chosen peak pose and theme, aligning every section to the Fluid Pyramid and its elemental progression.
  • Distinguish when a student needs a verbal cue, a visual demonstration, or a tactile assist, basing the choice on observed confusion or misalignment.
  • Demonstrate stable assisting stances and light-to-firm contact on a consenting student, moving deeper only on exhales and preserving student safety and assess when an assist is inappropriate, including student resistance, pregnancy, or limited familiarity, justifying restraint with clear safety reasoning.
  • Use a personally relevant theme at the opening, middle, and close of a class, keeping spoken introductions brief and authentic to lived experience.
  • Demonstrate accessible pose variations with blocks, straps, bolsters, and blankets, using inclusive language that normalizes prop use for every student.
  • Demonstrate accessible pose variations with blocks, straps, bolsters, and blankets, using inclusive language that normalizes prop use.
Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics
  • Identify joint actions including flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, rotation, pronation, and supination, explaining each movement accurately.
  • Identify the main joints used in asana and the joint types, including hinge, pivot, saddle, and ball-and-socket, as well as biomechanical forces such as compression, tension, shearing, torsion, and torque as they act on the body, relating each force to injury risk with clear reasoning.
  • Use breath-linked movement to show how exhalation pairs with flexion and inhalation with extension, sustaining this pattern consistently.
  • Identify the chakras, the principal nadis, the koshas, and the prana vayus, naming the location or quality of each accurately.
Business Skills
  • Identify settings where yoga teachers find work, including studios, gyms, companies, schools, community spaces, and senior communities, with accurate examples.
  • Identify the elements of a strong teacher bio and a mission statement, including who is served, what is offered, and how the teacher differs.
  • Identify essential business needs for teachers, including liability insurance, waivers, CPR certification, invoicing, and business registration, distinguishing each by its purpose.
Lifestyle & Ethics
  • Apply class management skills by making yourself available at the start and end of each class, cultivating a welcoming environment for all students.
  • Practice a selected paramita during training, documenting reflections honestly and consistently in a practice log.
  • Apply scope-of-practice boundaries by referring students to licensed professionals rather than offering medical advice, consistently and respectfully.
  • Justify responses to ethical dilemmas such as confidentiality requests or criticism of other teachers, aligning each response with the code of conduct.
Practice Skills
  • Practice the full baseline sequence, coordinating breath with movement and maintaining safe alignment throughout.
  • Identify the pranayama techniques of Nadi Shodhana, Ujjayi, Kapalabhati, Kumbhaka, Sama Vritti, Viloma, and Tibetan Nine-Part Breath, teaching each pranayama technique with correct technique and pacing, sustaining a steady and controlled rhythm throughout.
  • Practice daily meditation using shamatha, loving-kindness, or tonglen, documenting duration and observations consistently in a meditation log.
  • Demonstrate engagement of each bandha in seated and standing positions, identifying their use in postures that help maintain stability without gripping or strain.
Yoga History & Theory
  • Identify each limb of Patanjali's path, including the yamas and niyamas by name, defining each accurately.
  • Explain the Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path, grouping the path into wisdom, conduct, and meditation with accuracy.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Fluid Yoga's roots in Tibetan Buddhist philosophy and mindful vinyasa flow, explaining its approach clearly.
