Additional Information

Core competencies

By the end of this program, graduates will be able to…

Lifestyle & Ethics
  • Identify ritual as a deliberate, symbolic practice that marks transitions, anchors intentions, and creates meaning within the flow of ordinary life
  • Identify the primary competencies required for leading transformational group experiences as a somatic depths practitioner and list the key group facilitation elements: container creation, opening ritual, somatic attunement to the group field, sequential skill-building and integration
  • Identify the somatic depths certification evaluation requirements and list the primary competency areas evaluated: somatic coaching presence, trauma-informed facilitation, breathwork and somatic tool application
  • Apply trauma-informed principles to the design of a first coaching session demonstrating the specific language, pacing, environmental choices, and attunement behaviors that communicate physical and emotional safety
Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics
  • Explain the distinction between ifs as a psychotherapy modality and ifs-informed coaching and describe the scope of practice boundaries that define safe ifs
  • Apply nervous system literacy to a somatic coaching session by accurately reading a client's current nervous system state from observable somatic cues, selecting the regulation tool most appropriate for that state, and adjusting session pacing to support the client's capacity for self-inquiry
Other
  • Analyze the relationship between a client's somatic check-in data and the most productive direction for the coaching session examining how the practitioner's ability to read somatic information enables more precise session direction
  • Analyze the difference between cognitive self-report and somatic tracking examining how the practitioner's consistent redirection from narrative to sensation gradually builds the client's somatic intelligence and deepens their capacity for embodied self-knowledge
  • Evaluate a guided yoga or breathwork session for its trauma-sensitivity assessing whether language, pacing, and attunement consistently honored participant autonomy, supported nervous system safety, and created conditions for genuine somatic regulation rather than compliance with external instruction.
  • Discuss the specific reflective practices — supervision, journaling, somatic self-inquiry, and peer feedback — that most effectively develop the practitioner's capacity for genuinely unfiltered deep listening.
Yoga History & Theory
  • Design a workshop on koshas and the subtle energy system with a clear framework for how participants can integrate subtle body awareness into their existing professional practice without overstepping their scope.
Teaching Skills
  • Evaluate a coaching session for the quality and impact assessing whether questions opened new awareness, deepened somatic inquiry, or supported embodied visioning
  • Apply somatic breathwork facilitation skills by guiding a modified group breathwork session that includes a clear consent and preparation process, active monitoring of participant states for signs of overwhelm or trauma activation
  • Describe how unexamined cultural filters create systematic distortions in listening, assessment, and intervention
  • Apply somatic inquiry techniques to identify and work with personal resistance patterns in real time.
Practice Skills
  • Design a complete strategy session framework for your somatic depths practice including a pre-session intake form, a 60-minute session structure with time allocations for each phase, and specific breakthrough questions
  • Identify the primary principles of evidence-based habit change relevant to the somatic depths curriculum including the habit loop, identity-based habit formation, implementation intentions, environmental design, and the role of nervous system state
Business Skills
  • Apply business foundation principles by creating a one-page professional profile that articulates your niche, transformation promise, core services, and unique value proposition

AYC allows each school to state and evaluate the competencies each student acquires. Students rate how well the program delivered them.
