- Live participation in the majority of sessions is required with some flexibility offered for students in different time zones - All sessions will be recorded and available to watch four hours after they air live - Students must submit a brief summary of each session not attended live with 3-5 bullet points listing the main subject matter of the sessionCore competencies

- Describe the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system by detailing key structures and function and describing their role in breathwork and pranayama.
- Integrate foundational concepts from Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra and the Bhagavad Gita into one's personal spiritual philosophy.
- Explain how foundational practices of Ayurveda - including diet, sleep, lifestyle and movement - can effectively address doshic imbalance and the navigation of seasonal changes.
- Explain how subtle body anatomy - including prana and the chakras - impacts and directs the practice of asana in the Himalayan tradition.
- Sequence a safe, effective 1-hour class sequence in the Himalayan Institute tradition, including asana, breathing, relaxation, and meditation practices.
- Practice 4 systematic relaxation techniques as a bridge between hatha yoga and meditation.
- Practice the core meditation methods, including stable sitting posture and breath awareness.
- Practice traditional sanskrit chants from the Himalayan Institute lineage with correct pronunciation and pacing.
- Teach foundational Himalayan Institute meditation practices effectively, with correct cueing of posture and breath awareness.
- Guide students through systematic relaxation techniques including: Tension-Release, Point to Point, and Guided Muscle techniques with proper tone and pacing.
- Teach foundational asana effectively, including proper alignment, breath cues, subtle energetics of each pose, using the correct Sanskrit terms, and adapting poses sensibly for the unique needs of students.
AYC allows each school to state and evaluate the competencies each student acquires. Students rate how well the program delivered them.
