Purpose

This training prepares you to teach yoga, mindfulness and meditation to children ages 3-13. Increase your impact (and your income) with our proven system to help kids feel healthier and happier.

  • Design complete class plans for both Littles and Big Kids that demonstrate clear differences in language, pacing, pose selection, and facilitation approach appropriate to each developmental group.
  • Develop a classroom management and child safety protocol that includes environmental setup, behavior expectations, de-escalation strategies, consent procedures, and mandatory reporting awareness.
  • Design a connected community yoga sequence for children that uses partner poses, group shapes, and cooperative games to build belonging, consent literacy, and social confidence.

Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics
  • Design a developmentally sequenced class that clearly reflects knowledge of physical and cognitive capabilities at a specified age within the full birth-to-eighteen credential range.
  • Create a kid-friendly anatomy and energy center lesson that uses movement, imagery, and sensory exploration to help children at a specific age understand how their bodies work.
  • Develop a trauma-sensitive and neurodiverse-inclusive class design that incorporates IYK® self-regulation tools, consistent rituals, and flexible participation options appropriate for the target age group.
  • Develop a mental health-informed class framework that integrates nervous system regulation exercises, body-positive language, and emotional safety practices drawn from the IYK® system.
Practice Skills
  • Design a complete poses, games, and activities sequence for children that integrates imaginative themes, breath cues, IYK® games, and modifications for both younger and older students.
  • Lead children through an IYK® Sundance sequence and age-appropriate guided mindfulness or meditation practice, using clear language, imaginative imagery, and comfortable pacing.
  • Create a baby and toddler yoga class plan that includes an opening song, caregiver-assisted movement sequence, massage element, and gentle closing ritual appropriate for the newborn-to-three range.
  • Design a teen yoga curriculum segment that integrates movement, mindfulness, ethical reflection, and space for authentic self-expression in a format that resonates with adolescent learners.
  • Create a family yoga class plan that includes a warm-up, partner or group movement sequence, cooperative activity, and a closing ritual suitable for families with children of mixed ages.
Yoga History & Theory
  • Apply the IYK® purpose and process framework to design class experiences that are developmentally appropriate, philosophically grounded, and meaningful for children at each stage of growth.
  • Apply selected yamas or niyamas as class themes for different age groups, adapting the teaching language, activities, and reflections to suit the developmental level of the students.
  • Apply the High5 Habits framework across a class session by embedding habit-building language, reflective practices, and movement rituals that reinforce each habit for the target age group.
Lifestyle & Ethics
  • Apply a whole-child wellness lens to children's yoga class design by incorporating themes that support physical health, emotional regulation, and healthy lifestyle habits within the IYK® framework.
  • Apply the IYK® ethical framework—including choice-based participation, opt-in consent for partner work, clear communication with guardians, and trauma-sensitive language—to real-world teaching scenarios involving diverse student needs and classroom contexts.
  • Apply personal self-care and nervous system regulation practices from the IYK® curriculum to your own daily life, integrating the same breath, movement, and mindfulness tools you teach children into your own recovery and renewal as a teacher.
Business Skills
  • Create a specialty programming menu for a children's yoga business that includes at least three distinct offerings—such as a camp, party format, and seasonal series—each with a brief description and target audience.
  • Apply IYK® Peak Performance principles to design a yoga session for a specific youth athletic or performing arts population, addressing the physical and mental demands of their discipline.
  • Develop a professional launch plan for a children's yoga business that includes an American Yoga Council credentialing timeline, liability coverage, a target audience profile, and a marketing and outreach strategy.

AYC allows each school to state and evaluate the competencies each student acquires. Students rate how well the program delivered them.
