Style/Lineage

After doing conventional trainings in yoga centers for a decade, and then one-to-one online mentorships in recent years, J. has developed a deep learning program offering a return to an integrated and organic approach to studying yoga that is based on relationship and co-creation.

Yoga History & Theory
  • Describe the contribution of yoga's key philosophical texts to the history of yoga by outlining each text's historical context, key ideas and typical practices
  • Discuss the defining characteristics of hinduism's major philosophical viewpoints by comparing and contrasting each school's contributions to yoga history as well as our modern practice
  • Apply insights from multiple translations of yogic philosophical texts and integrate those insights into practice and teaching.
Practice Skills
  • Describe how the personal practice of meditation may improve your personal focus, presence, and emotional stability
  • Perform a personal, breath-centered yoga practice that integrates pranayama with asana and uses the breath to motivate movement.
  • Demonstrate self-inquiry and self-awareness by applying yoga philosophical concepts to a real-life challenge using reflective language
Teaching Skills
  • Teach asana and pranayama safely and effectively by demonstrating correct posture, clear cuing, accurate breath counts, and appropriate pacing
  • Adapt a class plan based on assessment and relationship by accurately identifying a student's need and implementing modifications addressing specific needs.
  • Design yoga classes effectively using a balance of structured sequencing, prepared scripts, and real-time improvisation
  • Apply a 15-minute adapted practice for a special population by modifying postures to safely support their unique needs.
Lifestyle & Ethics
  • Create your professional code of conduct with high standards of professionalism and clear understanding of scope of practice.

AYC allows each school to state and evaluate the competencies each student acquires. Students rate how well the program delivered them.
