Teaching Skills
  • Design a client intake and progress tracking system for a yoga therapy practice that supports the eight-step process from initial assessment to program evaluation.
  • Teach a yoga therapy client to self-monitor their physical and energetic state and adjust their home practice based on current needs and the eight-step framework.
  • Design a community-based group yoga therapy program for a specific at-risk or specialty population that includes goals, session structure, and an evaluation plan.
Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics
  • Apply knowledge of regional biomechanics to assess a client's posture, identify movement compensations, and select appropriate therapeutic asana.
  • Apply knowledge of common pathologies and contraindications to modify a yoga therapy session safely for a client with a specific medical condition.
  • Design a five-kosha meditation that addresses each layer of the subtle body, tailored to a specific client condition or therapeutic goal.
  • Apply yoga psychology frameworks alongside DSM awareness to recognize stress-related and mental health patterns in a client and adapt the session accordingly.
Practice Skills
  • Identify the three doshas, four types of agni, concept of ama, and the tri-guna framework as they apply to Ayurvedic yoga therapy assessment.
  • Design a Yin or Restorative yoga class for a specific therapeutic population that integrates meridian theory, kosha awareness, and individualized prop support.
  • Design a Thai Yoga Bodywork sequence for a specific dosha imbalance that integrates relevant Sen line protocols, breath work, and metta-based mindfulness.
  • Design a group yoga therapy program for a specific marginalized or specialty population that incorporates assessment, eight-limb tools, and a clear community-centered intention.
  • Design a yoga strength and Pilates-informed therapy module for a client with a postural or musculoskeletal concern that progresses from foundational stability to functional movement.
Yoga History & Theory
  • Create a yoga therapy program that accurately and deeply integrates the foundational texts (Upanishads, Bhagvavad Gita, and Yoga Sutra) into its curriculum, philosophy, and clinical practice.
  • Apply knowledge of the different yoga paths to tailor a therapeutic yoga approach that honors a client's philosophy, temperament, and goals.
  • Design a guided Sutra study practice for a client that traces the path of their kleshas and offers specific practices for each obstacle identified.
  • Identify the Bhagavad Gita's key teachings on the three gunas, the nature of suffering, attachment, greed, anger, and the path to freedom.
Lifestyle & Ethics
  • Help a client create a sattvic diet and lifestyle plan that accounts for their dosha type, current ama level, cultural background, and therapeutic goals.
  • Apply ethical decision-making to a challenging clinical scenario involving scope-of-practice limits, a referral need, or a boundary consideration with a client.
  • Assess your own current wellbeing, sustainability of practice load, and alignment between your personal sadhana and the demands of your therapeutic role.
Business Skills
  • Apply the framework of karma and dharma to clarify your own teaching mission and identify one community project or service offering that reflects your path.
  • Explain how collaboration with physicians, mental health professionals, and other healthcare providers expands the scope and effectiveness of a yoga therapy practice.
  • Create a basic clinical intake packet for a yoga therapy practice that includes a health history questionnaire, informed consent form, and initial session structure.

AYC allows each school to state and evaluate the competencies each student acquires. Students rate how well the program delivered them.
