Purpose

Jula Transform’s Yoga Teacher Training offers a life-changing experience that can serve as a launching pad for transforming the course of one’s life. Students will gain deep insight into their own energetic makeup through self-study, readings, journaling, meditation, breathwork, asanas, and by exploring the 5000-year-old roots of the 8-Limb Path from the Patanjali Sutras. Along the way, they’ll build a strong foundation in yoga asanas and sequencing to carry with them for life, while also cultivating a renewed sense of peace and compassion for themselves and the world around them.

What to expect

Jula Transform's Yoga Teacher Training will consist of Saturday meetups twice a monthly for 6 months. These meeting will include extensive yoga asanas, sequencing practice, learning assists, proper alignment, anatomy, philosophy, business & marketing, breathwork, meditation, chanting, mantras, community lunches, yoga music, chakras, living the yogic lifestyle, and more. There will also be some surprise events!

Style/Lineage

Jula Transform’s teacher training is rooted in Jessica Reynolds’ 20+ years of practice, blending elements from two lineages to create a unique style of yoga. Her approach is shaped most by the Hatha Yoga 8-Limb Path of the Patanjali Sutras, studied in Bloomfield, NY at Grounded By Yoga, and the powerful tradition of Kundalini Yoga, studied in Ithaca, NY at Yoga Farm Ithaca. Both training’s philosophy draws on the yoga sutras as a guide for inner peace and worldly compassion, while honoring the idea that each and every one of us has an inner light waiting to shine bright.

  • Practice yoga asanas ranging from gentle to advanced by using appropriate props, practicing Sun Salutations A and B, and developing awareness of strength, mobility, body awareness, and compassionate self-observation.
  • Practice chanting and mantra as tools for focused awareness and creating a supportive practice environment by demonstrating appropriate techniques and incorporating them into meditation or yoga practice.

  • Demonstrate five foundational pranayama techniques for students by accurately teaching each technique and explaining its intended purpose, benefits, and appropriate considerations.
Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics
  • Explain the roles of bones, joints, and ligaments in yoga movement by distinguishing flexion from compression, recognizing individual anatomical limitations, and identifying when students may be approaching an unsafe range of movement.
  • Explain the roles of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems in relation to yoga practice by describing common fight-or-flight and rest-and-digest responses and identifying practices that may support regulation.
  • Identify the primary muscles engaged, strengthened, lengthened, or stretched in common yoga poses by relating specific muscular actions to selected asanas and movement patterns.
Yoga History & Theory
  • Describe foundational concepts from Patañjali’s Yoga Sūtras by identifying at least five selected sūtras and explaining their relevance to yoga practice and philosophy.
  • Compare the four paths of yoga by identifying their distinct approaches, examining how they support different practitioners, and reflecting on which path or combination of paths resonates with one’s own practice.
  • Recognize the Sanskrit names of asanas taught in the training by accurately identifying and using the Sanskrit terminology and explaining its connection to the history and tradition of yoga.
Business Skills

  • Compare employee and independent-contractor models for yoga teaching by identifying key differences, responsibilities, benefits, and considerations associated with each arrangement.
  • Create a personal marketing strategy for a yoga teaching practice by developing appropriate social media content, identifying opportunities for community outreach, and establishing collaborative relationships with aligned businesses or spaces.
Lifestyle & Ethics

  • Observe students and provide appropriate modifications by identifying individual needs, selecting suitable variations or props, and offering modifications that support safety, accessibility, and the intended purpose of the pose.
  • Create adaptable yoga sequences by developing purposeful progressions and appropriately modifying or reorganizing the sequence in response to a student’s injury, limitation, or changing class needs without disrupting the overall effectiveness of the practice.
  • Apply appropriate hands-on assisting techniques by demonstrating four types of assists and a three-way approach to assisting, using appropriate touch, and recognizing signs of discomfort, awkwardness, or potential injury so the assist can be modified, discontinued, or avoided.

AYC allows each school to state and evaluate the competencies each student acquires. Students rate how well the program delivered them.
