Purpose

Not All Yoga Teacher Trainings Are Created Equal.

A 200-hour certificate tells you how long someone trained. It doesn't necessarily tell you how well they learned to teach. At Level Above Yoga School, we believe teacher education should be measured by far more than attendance.

What to expect

For experienced teachers who want to develop the skills of teacher education, Level Above offers opportunities to assist and apprentice within our training programs.

Apprentices gain exposure to the work behind exceptional facilitation: curriculum delivery, student feedback, leading discussions, observing and assessing teaching skills, and creating powerful learning environments.  This work includes an advanced exploration of Baptiste methodology, yoga anatomy, yoga humanities, and the art of leading others through meaningful learning.

Continuing education eligibility is available where applicable and subject to the requirements of the relevant credentialing organization.

Style/Lineage

Our trainees study anatomy, philosophy, methodology, and the practical skills of teaching. They receive direct feedback, opportunities to practice, and assessments designed to demonstrate their developing competence.

But our work goes further.

Rooted in the methodologies of Baptiste Power Yoga and informed by personal inquiry, meditation, and leadership development, Level Above challenges trainees to examine not only how they teach, but who they are being when they lead.

Additional Information

Core competencies

By the end of this program, graduates will be able to…

Teaching Skills
  • Design an original vinyasa sequence around a clear intention or peak, showing coherent logical progression, balanced counterposes, and a grounded closing phase, justifying any reordering with clear reasoning about preparation and counterposes.
  • Develop a complete point-to-point cue script for a standing pose, ensuring every cue is concise, sequenced from the foundation, and free of filler language.
  • Construct an assisting plan for a full class flow, selecting assists that match each pose's alignment priorities while respecting consent and class pacing.
  • Formulate a pacing strategy for a full-length class, including recovery moves for when the class loses momentum, so that energy builds and settles intentionally.
  • Create an essential share and accompanying class theme in your own voice, ensuring the message is authentic, relevant, and woven naturally into the practice.
Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics
  • Differentiate between breathing patterns that energize and those that calm, analyzing how ratio, pace, and throat restriction change their physiological effect, and construct a breath-awareness sequence that progresses from natural breathing to controlled patterns.
  • Develop an alignment breakdown for a complex pose, organizing actions from foundation to crown so that every element supports structural integrity.
  • Compare the roles of the bandhas in standing poses, arm balances, and inversions, examining how their engagement changes with each pose's demands.
  • Identify the chakras from the base of the spine upward, naming each in English or Sanskrit along with its associated location in the body.
Business Skills
  • Apply a self-marketing strategy, such as a donation-based class or social media campaign, executing it with a clear message and target audience.
  • Explain why yoga is not exempt from risk and how waivers and liability insurance protect both teacher and student, describing the limits of each.
  • Explain how credentials and continuing education support professional credibility and career growth, describing what is needed to maintain them.
Lifestyle & Ethics
  • Analyze a real-life situation through the lens of the yamas and niyamas, distinguishing which observances are honored or neglected and why.
  • Apply integrity as a practice by identifying a broken agreement and taking steps to restore it, showing responsibility and follow-through.
  • Apply professional conduct standards in a teaching scenario, such as keeping shares relevant and maintaining appropriate student relationships, with sound judgment.
  • Explain why equity matters in yoga spaces and how language can connect rather than sever, describing the impact of word choice on diverse students.
Practice Skills
  • Practice the full Journey into Power sequence with steady breath, focused gaze, and engaged foundation, sustaining integrity of form throughout.
  • Compare energizing and calming pranayama techniques, distinguishing their effects on body, mind, and energy level with clear examples.
  • Develop a personal meditation routine that fits your life, selecting styles and supports such as mantra or mala that sustain consistent practice, assessing the impact of a consistent meditation practice on your daily life, justifying conclusions with specific, honest observations.
  • Evaluate the progress of your personal growth through self-inquiry, justifying conclusions with evidence of changed behavior or perspective.
Yoga History & Theory
  • Explain how yoga traveled to and developed in the West, describing key moments such as Swami Vivekananda's 1893 address in their historical context.
  • Apply the eight-limbed path to a modern practice, demonstrating how each limb can show up on and off the mat with relevant examples.
  • Apply a teaching from the Bhagavad Gita to a present-day personal or teaching challenge, demonstrating its relevance with a clear example.
  • Evaluate when Sanskrit terms clarify or confuse instruction for a given audience, justifying choices about how and when to use them.

AYC allows each school to state and evaluate the competencies each student acquires. Students rate how well the program delivered them.
