Purpose

To provide students with a solid foundation in Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga, preparing them to teach safe, intelligent and ethical classes through asana, sequencing, anatomy, pranayama, meditation, philosophy and teaching methodology.

What to expect

Students can expect a complete foundational training designed to prepare them to practice and teach Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga with confidence, clarity and responsibility. As Level 1 of the Roots & Rise pathway, the program combines practical experience, theoretical study and supervised teaching practice.

Throughout the training, students will study asana, alignment, functional anatomy, biomechanics, sequencing, pranayama, meditation, Yoga philosophy, ethics and teaching methodology. They will learn how to structure classes, give clear instructions, adapt postures to different bodies, understand basic movement principles and create coherent Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga sequences.

The program includes guided practices, lectures, group discussions, observation, practice teaching, feedback sessions and sequencing labs. Students are encouraged to develop their own personal practice as the foundation for authentic teaching.

The Hatha Yoga modules focus on stability, precision, posture, breath and awareness. The Vinyasa Yoga modules explore fluidity, transitions, rhythm, breath-led movement and intelligent sequencing. Alongside the physical practice, students will also explore the historical and philosophical roots of Yoga, learning how to communicate these teachings in a contemporary and accessible way.

By the end of the training, students will have the essential tools to begin teaching Yoga professionally and to continue their development through the higher levels of Roots & Rise.

Style/Lineage

The 200-Hour Hatha & Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training at Lighthouse Yoga is Level 1 of our Roots & Rise professional education pathway. The program is rooted in the classical foundations of Hatha Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, pranayama, meditation and Yoga philosophy, while integrating contemporary knowledge from functional anatomy, biomechanics, nervous system regulation and modern teaching methodology.

This training is not limited to a single lineage or fixed style. Instead, it offers students a strong foundation in the principles that support safe, intelligent and meaningful Yoga practice. Students learn traditional postures, alignment principles, breath awareness, sequencing, class structure, meditation and the philosophical context of Yoga.

The Hatha component emphasizes precision, stability, alignment, breath and embodied awareness. The Vinyasa component explores intelligent movement, fluid transitions, rhythm, sequencing and the relationship between breath and movement.

As the first level of Roots & Rise, this program gives students the roots: a solid understanding of Yoga practice, history, philosophy, anatomy and ethics. It also begins the process of rising into confident, responsible and skillful teaching. Our approach is educational, practical and contemporary, designed to prepare students to teach real people with clarity, care and professional integrity.

Program Emphasis

Evaluation methods

Program evaluations
  • Graded Demonstration
  • Case Study
  • Group Project Or Presentation
  • Other
  • Solo Project Or Presentation
  • Direct Observation
  • Written Submission
Our evaluation approach combines continuous assessment, written work and practical teaching evaluation. Students complete written submissions related to Yoga history, philosophy, anatomy, ethics, sequencing and teaching methodology. These assignments allow students to demonstrate understanding of the theoretical foundations of the program and their ability to relate them to practice and teaching. Practical evaluation takes place through supervised teaching exercises, peer observation and instructor feedback. Throughout the training, students practice teaching short class segments, apply foundational sequencing principles, demonstrate safe posture instruction, use clear verbal cues, guide breath and movement, and create a supportive learning environment. At the end of the training, each student completes a final teaching practicum. Students are organized into small groups with their peers, and each student is assigned a specific 30-minute sequence to guide. During this final assessment, students are evaluated on class structure, sequencing, verbal instruction, timing, presence, breath guidance, safety, clarity, and their ability to hold the role of the teacher in a real practice setting. Throughout the program, faculty members observe each student’s participation, professionalism, communication skills, ethical awareness, personal practice and development as a teacher. Feedback is offered progressively so that students can refine their teaching skills before completing the program. Successful completion requires attendance of the required hours, active participation, completion of written assignments, participation in practice-teaching sessions and successful completion of the final 30-minute teaching practicum.
