Purpose

This will be an awesome journey for anyone interested in offering more meditation in your yoga classes, or anyone who simply wants to deepen your own experience of this ancient science and practice.

What to expect

We will be exploring and experiencing:

  • Yoga postures as preparation

  • Creative visualizations and relaxations to align us

  • Tools and techniques for transformation

  • Journaling

  • Mantra practice

  • The wisdom of the Bhagavat Gita, the Yoga Sutras, the Shiva Sutras

  • Sacred poetry and teachings from the great mystic traditions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, and Christianity.

Above all else, we will be supported and encouraged to develop and sustain our own personal internal practice

  • Practice foundational meditation techniques from the curriculum with appropriate posture, breath awareness, concentration, and consistency
  • Demonstrate proficiency in a variety of meditation techniques taught in the program, explaining the purpose and application of each technique
Teaching Skills
  • Teach a guided meditation practice from the curriculum using clear verbal instruction, appropriate pacing, vocal tone, and intentional periods of silence
  • Create a structured meditation session including an appropriate opening, preparation, meditation practice, integration, and closing
  • Apply effective verbal cueing and communication skills when guiding meditation using accessible, inclusive, and appropriately paced language that supports student awareness and concentration
  • Adapt meditation practices for individuals and groups with varying levels of experience and needs appropriately modifying posture, duration, technique, or instructions while maintaining the intention of the practice
  • Apply appropriate safety considerations when guiding meditation practices, creating an environment that supports physical comfort, emotional safety, accessibility, and individual choice
  • Evaluate your own meditation teaching practice reflecting on strengths, areas for growth, student experience, and opportunities for continued development
  • Plan a complete meditation class or guided meditation session with clear objectives, appropriate sequencing, accessible instructions, and sufficient time for practice and integration
  • Teach a complete meditation session based on the curriculum demonstrating preparation, effective communication, appropriate pacing, skillful guidance, and professional presence
Yoga History & Theory
  • Describe key historical and philosophical foundations of meditation, accurately explaining foundational concepts and their relationship to meditation practice
  • Explain the relationship between meditation, mindfulness, concentration, breath awareness, and self-awareness clearly describing how these practices support the development of awareness and presence
Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics
  • Describe basic physiological and psychological effects associated with meditation and relaxation practices accurately describing their potential relationship to stress, attention, relaxation, and overall well-being
Lifestyle & Ethics
  • Demonstrate professional and ethical conduct as a meditation teacher, maintaining appropriate boundaries, respecting confidentiality, honoring diverse backgrounds, and practicing within an appropriate scope of practice
  • Reflect on the personal impact of a consistent meditation practice throughout the training identifying meaningful changes or observations in physical, mental, emotional, or behavioral awareness

AYC allows each school to state and evaluate the competencies each student acquires. Students rate how well the program delivered them.
