Purpose

Long Life Yoga Intensive will give you the tools to confidently and creatively incorporate proven longevity practices into your yoga practice, yoga classes and private sessions with students of all ages.

This intensive is designed for yoga students seeking a practice intensive and yoga teachers wishing to expand their teaching skills and marketability around the growing interest in longevity practices.

  • Explain the difference between healthspan and lifespan describing how the 6 pillars work together as a system and summarizing why movement is prioritized above other longevity pillars and what the research shows.
  • Explain movement as the primary intervention for healthy aging, including a brief rationale for its impact.
Practice Skills
  • Apply the 6-pillar framework to self-assess lifestyle, identifying present/absent movement categories in a yoga class, and explain healthspan principles clearly in student-friendly language
  • Apply progressive load in yoga by modifying timing, angle, and/or repetition to increase or decrease load with clear rationale
  • Identify all 7 categories of movement, and classify which categories support strength, balance, mobility, and anti-inflammaging outcomes
Yoga History & Theory
  • Discuss the five qualities of sustainable yoga explaining ts non-goal-oriented and non-performative nature, and identify how it differs from performance-based yoga.
  • Explain how each of the five sustainable yoga qualities supports long-term healthspan, describe how the absence of performance goals influences physiological and psychological experience, and summarize how this approach makes practice accessible to all ages and bodies.
  • Discuss the practical meaning of each yama and niyama by providing at real-life or practice-based example per principle
  • Explain ow each of the yamas and niyamas supports wellbeing create a non-judgmental, inclusive classroom culture.
Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics
  • Define progressive load in a yoga context and identify its two primary physiological outcomes: improved bone density and enhanced muscle recruitment
  • Explain progressive load in a yoga context by clearly distinguishing it from repetitive movement, describing at least two methods of using body weight and/or props (e.g., blocks) to stimulate bone density and muscle recruitment
Teaching Skills
  • Design a class arc that includes both active load and adequate recovery.
  • Teach a long life yoga class by organizing the sequence around any of the 7 movement categories and integrating them into poses or sequences, using body weight, props, and timing
  • Explain cortisol spiking in practical teaching terms, and demonstrate at least two class structure strategies (e.g., pacing, rest intervals, transitions) that moderate stress response
  • Apply appropriate pacing, breath guidance, and rest intervals within a live long life yoga sequence
  • Lead a class discussion about how contemplation and journal contribute to svadyaya describing how can one create a practice of svadyaya in daily life

AYC allows each school to state and evaluate the competencies each student acquires. Students rate how well the program delivered them.
