Yoga History & Theory
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the 8 limbs of yoga as a framework for living and teaching, including how the yamas and niyamas show up in real life, relationships, and on the mat.
Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics
  • Demonstrate an understanding ot the 6 key movements of the spine by effectively incorporating spinal extension/flexion, rotation, and lateral flexion into class sequence
  • Guide students safely and effectively through asana practice while applying basic understanding of joint movement and muscular action
  • Teach with an awareness of the nervous system recognizing when to energize vs. down-regulate and how to support both through movement, restorative elements and breath
Teaching Skills
  • Confidently lead radiance yoga's signature flow from start to finish in a live class
  • Apply pranayama instruction by leading a short breathwork practice using cues that clearly matches the intended energetic direction of the class
  • Apply the radiance class design arc to create and deliver a well-paced, intentional class that builds toward a peak and lands students safely
  • Use power verb cueing while guiding students clearly through movement using action-based language, simple anatomy + sensory awareness
  • Create a class plan for a specific student population—beginners, intermediate, or mixed level— that adapts every posture with a modification and a challenge option, includes a population-specific dharma talk, and demonstrates intelligent peak pose sequencing
  • Offer use props (blocks, straps, blankets, etc.) to support beginners, deepen advanced practice, make classes more accessible and inclusive
  • Guide simple, effective meditation and grounding practices that fit naturally into classesthemes
  • Apply radiance class delivery standards across a minimum of 5 practice teaching sessions demonstrating progressive competency in action-based cueing, sequencing logic, student modification, and class management, with each session documented in a written teaching log
  • Guide sun salutations clearly and safely, offering accessible options and strong alignment cues— particularly for chaturanga and vinyasa transitions
Practice Skills
  • Apply pranayama techniques in a guided session demonstrating correct instruction sequence, breath ratio cueing, transition phrasing, and safety monitoring, with each technique linked to its stated physiological or class intention
  • Demonstrate restorative yoga poses from the radiance curriculum—with and without props— stating the primary physiological benefit, the nervous system effect, the minimum recommended hold time, and one contraindication for each pose.
Lifestyle & Ethics
  • Discuss the core ethical responsibilities of a yoga teacher regarding scope of practice, dual relationships, informed consent, adjustments, cultural attribution, and social media conduct stating the specific risk or harm associated with each boundary area
  • Identify the core components of a yoga teacher's professional foundation—scope of practice, liability waivers, insurance types, tax obligations, independent contractor versus employee status, and brand identity— stating the purpose and risk managed by each component
  • Discuss the 6 key elements of a safe and effective yoga class environment—room setup, student intake, consent for assists, injury awareness, modification awareness, and closing protocol— describing the specific teacher responsibility and student impact associated with each.

AYC allows each school to state and evaluate the competencies each student acquires. Students rate how well the program delivered them.
