Purpose

The purpose of this program is to broaden & deepen your knowledge of the practice of yoga, as well as expand your skills & confidence as a teacher, in the studio & in life.

What to expect

This in-person training allows you to dive deeper into the practice of yoga. We will branch out from the Sanctuary flow, using it as a base to explore other styles & techniques so that you can determine what & how you want to teach. We will practice incorporating different elements into teaching & you will strengthen & expand your skills as a teacher & leader. For December 2025-December 2026, the tentative schedule through June 2026 includes full-day Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the following dates: December 13; January 3 and 17; February 14 and 28; March 14 and 28; April 11 and 25; May 9 and 30; and June 13 and 20. All dates are tentative and will be finalized on December 13, with additional workshop dates to be added.

Style/Lineage

At Sanctuary, we offer a strong, flow that is accessible to everyone - our power classes are vigorous as we move through Sun Salutations & poses, linking movement & breath. Our Flow & Slow classes are based on the same framework, but move more slowly. Classes are truly open to students of all levels & options for variations are always encouraged. While it is a very physical practice, there is always a focus on whole-being wellness: body, mind, heart spirit.
Additional Information
This training will require you to purchase several books & unlimited yoga at Sanctuary is included for the duration of the training. This training is open to anyone who has completed a 200 hour yoga teacher training program or higher & is designed to broaden & deepen your knowledge, as well as expand your skills & confidence as a teacher, in the studio & in life.

Core competencies

By the end of this program, graduates will be able to…

Yoga History & Theory
  • Discuss key ideas, practices and intepretations of yoga philosophical texts including, but not limited to, the yoga sutras and the bhagavad gita: exploring their personal relevance and describing how you would share these concepts with students in a way that fosters understanding and curiousity.
Teaching Skills
  • Teach a class in a specialized style of your choice (restorative, yin, beginners, advanced) skillfully with appropriate vocal tone, presence, body language, and pacing to support an effective experience of this style.
  • Design a class for a specialized style (restorative, yin, beginners, advanced) that includes appropriate postures, transitions, sequence, and adaptations for the targeted group.
  • Teach a class designed to support recovery, grief, or trauma that includes asana, pranayama, and meditation that supports the needs of your targeted group, using effective language, setting up the room effectively and acting within a professional scope of practice and role as a yoga teacher.
  • Apply the use of different props (straps, blocks, blankets & bolsters) into any style of class in order to help students support their unique structure and needs.
  • Guide students to adapt their personal expression of a pose to make the posture accessible to anyone regardless of body type, age, athletic ability, injury or other factor (such as pregnancy).
  • Adapt postures and the class structure as needed in the moment by accurately assessing and responding to the physical and energetic needs of the individual students as well as the group.
  • Demonstrate hands-on assists that will support and enhance the student experience through ensuring permission, embodying a grounded and balanced posture, using touch effectively, and demonstrating appropriate energy and intention.
  • Cue asana from the curriculum effectively with essential and impeccable language. cuing safe alignment, demonstrating an awareness of energetics, using your own language and allowing your unique personality to shine through.
  • Create specially themed classes inspired by the chakras, the yoga sutras and holidays/special events that includes appropriate postures, effective sequencing, while seamlessly weaving relevant knowledge and the thematic intention into the class.
Business Skills
  • Clarity your teaching niche and personal area of passion and expertise by developing your teaching voice in your given style and exploring how you will pursue this niche as a professional teacher, if desired.
  • Describe aspects of the business of yoga, including building a brand, growing classes, developing and teaching workshops, planning and leading retreats, and offering private sessions.
Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics
  • Describe the nervous system and its role in self-regulation, including the polyvagal theory, and the beneficial applications to all students.
  • Apply your understanding of anatomy to yoga teaching, including awareness of individual skeletal variation, joint mechanics, range of motion, muscle function, and connective tissue.
Lifestyle & Ethics
  • Demonstrate leadership and communication skills through giving and receiving compassionate and beneficial feedback to/with other teachers. this may include class structure, sequencing, and teaching methodology, with the intention to assist in personal and professional growth and development.

AYC allows each school to state and evaluate the competencies each student acquires. Students rate how well the program delivered them.
