Purpose
This training is designed for enthusiastic students of yoga who desire a stronger committed practice, higher understanding of yoga and its purpose, deeper integration of yoga as way of life, and to learn the tools of great alignment based yoga classes and serve as a teacher.
What to expect
The complete 200-hour program includes a deep and progressive immersion into the primary elements of yoga for accelerated practice. This includes the fundamentals of asana and technique of practice, pranayama, meditation, anatomy, bio-mechanics, the subtle body and chakra system, yoga history, philosophy and theory, plus an exploration of the foundational text, The Yoga Sutras. Also included are 8 hours of mentoring, observations, consent based hands-on assists, assisting classes, and an opportunity to teach regular classes at Brooklyn Flow in the weekly Blooming Teachers class. To support your growth and increased practice, you will be offered a discounted monthly unlimited membership at Brooklyn Flow for the duration of the training.
Julie is lead teacher and will be joined by other Brooklyn Flow teachers: Tracy Balzano, Jason Orrell, Ahmed Soliman, Lara Kohn Thompson, and Naimah Efia
Shaktiyoga New York Teacher Training runs 12 weekends over the course of 6 months of in-person instruction. Also required are 4 mentor sessions; 6 hours of observing / assisting classes; 2-4 hours of at-home study per week; and an increased frequency of yoga practice.
Style/Lineage
Shaktiyoga New York is a dynamic, intelligent, and accessible method of teaching and practice with foundations in Anusara Yoga and traditional vinyasa. Classes are open to all practitioners of any experience level, and are designed to help students find their center, trust themselves, and expand their capacity.
Additional Information
Prerequisites: Minimum 2+ years regular practice. No prior teaching experience necessary, nor do you have to be “flexible”, injury free, or super athletic, but this is not a Training for a new practitioner. Required is that you are an avid, enthusiastic student with a dedicated practice, have a desire to learn and grow from an 6 month course of study, and are ready to commit fully to the group time together. The knowledge you will gain through the experience will yield strength, flexibility, and healing on all levels, and you will up level from wherever you start.Core competencies

AYC allows each school to state and evaluate the competencies each student acquires. Students rate how well the program delivered them.

- Written exam
- Teaching evaluation
Training is completed with a written final exam, and a class evaluation. Periodic "pop quiz" moments during training too. The class evaluation is teaching a one hour class, sometimes co-taught with a fellow trainee, to an invite-only group of students. The final exam is a 10-day take home open book exam that is a combination of multiple choice, T/F, and short answer.
