Purpose

The SOUK™ Yoga Mentoring Training Program — a transformative experience created for certified yoga teachers (75, 100, 200, or 300-hour trained) who are ready to grow, refine, and expand their teaching journey

What to expect

125 Hours of Advanced Study, including 20 hours of 1:1 interaction with a Mentor, 7 Workshops, Lectures, Group Classes, Themed Assignments on Sequencing, and more

Style/Lineage

Primarily Jivamukti, Iyengar, Katonah, and other guest teachers from different lineages. This can vary from cohort to cohort.

By the end of this program, graduates will be able to…

Teaching Skills
  • Plan and teach an hour-long class with smart, safe sequencing by organizing a well-rounded practice that includes appropriate preparation, progressive asana, integration, and savasana"
  • Develop a dharma talk(s) in relationship to a class theme that can be shared and taught in a group setting based on trainee's study and/or life experience.
  • Assess when to offer hands on assists by accurately observing students practice and determining, based on safety, consent, context, and student readiness, whether physical guidance is appropriate
  • Cue asana and breath together during an open class by clearly coordinating movement with inhalation and exhalation, supporting rhythm and pacing
  • Offer hands-on adjustments by obtaining clear consent, using appropriate touch and pressure, communicating proper alignment and grounding
  • Adapt sequencing knowledge by adjusting class structure, posture choices, pacing, or intensity in real time based on the observed level, capacity, and needs of the students
Practice Skills
  • Practice an ongoing meditation practice daily or several times a week.
  • Demonstrate basic or intermediate pranayama practice with accurate technique, control, and awareness
  • Demonstrate an intermediate grasp of sanskrit by writing and reciting asana names accurate and with proper pronunciation
  • Demonstrate an intermediate grasp of asana through embodied execution in personal practice, showing appropriate strength, mobility, coordination, and awareness of alignment, breath, and transitions
  • Maintain an ongoing meditation practice by engaging in meditation daily or several times per week, demonstrating consistency, commitment, and reflective awareness over time
Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics
  • Teach asana using anatomically sound principles by accurately applying knowledge of joints, muscles, and movement patterns to support safe alignment, functional engagement, and sustainable practice
Yoga History & Theory
  • Develop dharma talks or teachings grounded in yoga philosophy by drawing from classical sources, personal study, and lived experience, and present these teachings in a clear, accessible way that supports reflection, relevance, and integration within a yoga class or group setting
Lifestyle & Ethics
  • Discuss ethical considerations as a yoga teacher including adherence to the yamas and niyamas as a lifestyle choice.
  • Discuss the importance of remaining an ongoing student as a yoga teacher by explaining how continued study, practice, and self-reflection support fresh, informed teaching and ongoing growth in knowledge, skill, and integrity
Business Skills
  • Apply best practices in marketing oneself as a yoga teacher by selecting ethical, sustainable strategies that align with personal values, capacity, and lifestyle goals

AYC allows each school to state and evaluate the competencies each student acquires. Students rate how well the program delivered them.
