Purpose

Our goal is to train yoga teachers who are able to lead accessible posture-based yoga classes from a holistic point of view, embracing meditation, philosophy, and lifestyle - yoga on and off the mat!

What to expect

This training provides the knowledge and skills necessary to guide practitioners through transformative experiences to connect with their authentic self while developing the skills to teach others.  The course focuses on assisting learners to understand not just the physical postures but the deeper aspects of yoga, such as mindfulness and breathwork, through the following core modules.

Core Modules:

Posture Practice: Alignment, Props, Assists

Identify and demonstrate basic alignment for primary yoga pose categories.

Apply pose variations and utilize props (e.g., blocks, straps, bolsters, blankets, chairs, wall) to support all bodies practicing yoga.

Demonstrate the foundations of yoga posture assists to ground, lengthen, and enhance the experience of a pose.

Design and sequence yoga postures safely.

 

Posture Practice: Yin, Vinyasa, Specialty

Identify basic alignment and cueing for differing body types and styles of yoga, such as Chair Yoga.

Explain and understand different styles and practice of posture-based yoga.

 

Anatomy

Explain and apply basic anatomical concepts related to yoga postures and breathing.

Demonstrate understanding of anatomy in a practical way as it relates to cueing of body movement.

 

Practice Teaching 

Teach yoga postures, breathing, and meditation techniques.

Teach short yoga posture sequences that focus on: standing poses, seated poses, forward bends, back bends, twists, hip openers, strengthening, and inverted poses.

 

Breathwork

Engage in breathwork techniques to deepen your personal practice.

Create a guided breathwork script.

 

Meditation

Engage in meditation sessions to deepen your personal practice.

Create a guided meditation script.

 

Subtle Body/Energy

Describe concepts of subtle anatomy, including chakras and the energetic body, in relation to yoga practice.

Practice yoga sequences and guided meditation based on the chakras.

 

Yoga Philosophy

Summarize and describe key principles of yoga philosophy, including the eight limbs of yoga and the yoga sutras.

Plant-Sourced Living

Share how the practice of yoga can be integrated off the mat through lifestyle, values, mindful eating, and intuition.

 

Yoga as a Business/Lifestyle

Explain fundamental concepts of yoga as a business.

Understand yoga as a lifestyle in connection to business.

Style/Lineage

This course offers instruction in yoga from a holistic and integrative point of view, providing an immersive experience designed for individuals who want to teach yoga and deepen their personal practice. 

In this course, learners create a solid foundation for personal yoga practice and learn the essentials of becoming a yoga teacher, including posture alignment, assists, props, and modifications, as well as sequencing and anatomy as it relates to yoga. Learners also gain an understanding of yoga philosophy, subtle anatomy, and the practice of yoga both on and off the mat. Learners develop skills in breathwork, meditation, and deep relaxation, then learn to teach these techniques effectively. 

Through this program, learners refine their teaching methodology, earn a 200-hour Certified Yoga Teacher (CYT) professional certificate, and create a meaningful path to growth with the opportunity to teach in a variety of settings, from studios to online classes.

  • Explain basic anatomical concepts related to yoga postures and breathing by describing their role in moving the body in posture-based practice
  • Review anatomy for different body parts including; hands and feet, core, lumbar, hips, knees, neck and shoulder
  • Identify yin and yang concepts as it relates to muscles and bones understanding tension and compression
Business Skills
  • Describe fundamental concepts of yoga as a business including yoga insurance, waivers, and creating a resume
Lifestyle & Ethics
  • Discuss key principles of non-harming understanding how it relates to daily choices, such us what you choose to consume
  • Explain how core yoga principles — such as svadhyaya (self-study), santosha (contentment), and ahimsa (non-harming) — shape off-the-mat practices in areas like eating habits, personal values, and daily decision-making
Practice Skills
  • Practice pose variations and utilize props (e.g., blocks, straps, bolsters, blankets, chairs, wall)
  • Practice basic alignment for primary yoga poses including standing, seated, forward bending, hip opening, back-bending, twists, inversions, and relaxation categories
Teaching Skills
  • Cue basic alignment for primary yoga poses, including cueing for differing body types including standing, seated, forward bending, hip opening, back-bending, twists, inversions, and relaxation categories
  • Apply pose variations and utilize props (e.g., blocks, straps, bolsters, blankets, chairs, wall) to support all bodies practicing yoga
  • Complete a yoga teaching practicum made up of reviewing, teaching, and receiving feedback on yoga posture, breathing, and meditation techniques
  • Demonstrate a complete yoga posture assist by following the four-stage sequence — permission, grounding, lengthening, and enhancement — and describe how each supports the practitioner's experience of the pose
  • Develop sequences to move through yoga postures safely following the concepts of prep poses, peak poses, neutralizing poses, and counter poses
  • Teach yoga postures, breathing, and meditation techniques utilizing practices in course books and curriculum
Yoga History & Theory
  • Describe key principles of yoga philosophy including the eight limbs of yoga as part of patanjali's yoga sutras
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of the four paths of yoga including the practices associated with these paths
  • Discuss concepts of subtle anatomy including the chakras and the energetic body and in relation to yoga posture practice

AYC allows each school to state and evaluate the competencies each student acquires. Students rate how well the program delivered them.
