Purpose

This program guides trainees into a full-spectrum understanding of yoga — physically, energetically, and philosophically — so they can know themselves deeply and confidently share the practices of asana, kriya, meditation, and pranayama with clarity and authenticity.

What to expect

This training blends pre-recorded lectures, guided practices, textbook study, LIVE Zoom sessions, and an optional 7-day immersion in the Arctic of Alaska, alongside a comprehensive printed manual, and experiential assignments designed to help trainees integrate what they learn. Students progress through modules covering yoga history and philosophy, physical and energetic anatomy, pranayama, meditation, the chakra system, koshas, bandhas, Ayurveda, gunas, kriya yoga, sequencing principles, cueing, contraindications, accessibility, pregnancy modifications, and the business of teaching yoga.

Trainees learn 50+ pose breakdowns, over 20 Himalayan Kriya practices, 15+ pranayama techniques, and methods for crafting classes at various speeds (gentle, medium flow, or vinyasa). Additional modules are offered in japa meditation / traditional mala-making, and an overview of the Gods and Goddesses in the Hindu pantheon.

Practice-teaching is emphasized throughout, culminating in a 45-minute live Zoom class taught by each trainee — a supportive, confidence-building capstone experience. Students also have the option to receive a personal mantra and initiation into a traditional Kriya Meditation technique.

The training is intentionally accessible, flexible, and supportive, allowing students of all levels to cultivate a meaningful personal practice while developing clear, safe, authentic teaching skills.

In addition to the 200+ page Yoga Hive Studios training manual the following books are also required as a part of the training:

Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahamsa Yogananda

The Yamas and the Niyamas by Deborah Adele

Opening to Spirit by Caroline Shola Arewa

The Secret Power of Yoga by Nischala Joy Devi

The Science of Yoga by Ann Swanson

The Key Muscles of Yogaby Ray Long

Style/Lineage

This program is rooted in the ancient Himalayan Kriya Yoga lineage, woven with vinyasa and hatha-based alignment principles, meditation, pranayama, and energetic studies from the tantric tradition. I define yoga as a complete spiritual science — a time-tested map for self-realization that integrates body, breath, mind, and energy so we can meet life with clarity and authenticity.

Rather than teaching only postures, this training emphasizes inner experience, self-study, and embodied understanding. Trainees learn to feel alignment within their own body, explore the subtle anatomy of prana and the chakra system, engage kriya practices traditionally taught in the Himalayas, and understand how these energetic tools support meaningful teaching on and off the mat.

While sequencing, cueing, and biomechanics are taught thoroughly, the heart of the lineage is awareness: knowing oneself first, so one can teach from lived experience rather than rote memorization. Students learn meditation, mantra, pranayama, kriya, philosophy, and accessible approaches to asana for diverse bodies.

The program honors yoga’s Himalayan roots, encourages personal evolution, and trains teachers to guide others with clarity, integrity, and presence — whether or not trainees intend to teach professionally.

Program Emphasis

Evaluation methods

Program evaluations
Students demonstrate their understanding of lifestyle and ethical principles through a written evaluation that explores their lived experience of the teachings. Trainees respond to a series of reflective prompts on daily sadhana, the gunas, healthy boundaries, habit change, the yamas and niyamas, and basic Ayurvedic awareness. Their submissions show how these concepts have taken root in real life — not just intellectually, but through personal insight, behavior shifts, and increased self-awareness. This written assessment ensures each trainee can thoughtfully apply the foundations of yogic ethics and lifestyle to their own path and future teaching.
