Purpose

Grow confidence on the mat, refine your postural alignment for ease or for challenge, and receive personal guidance from a seasoned teacher in a local community of support.

What to expect

Expect a combination in person practice, posture clinics and lectures, as well as a livestream component and take-home assignments.

Style/Lineage

This training expands on the YogaSix approach to Asana from the post-classical, tantric vinyasa lineage.

Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics
  • Identify major key bones and joints of the body, accurately naming each structure and describing its role in movement and joint function as it relates to yoga asana
  • Identify major key muscles and accurately name each muscle, describing its primary action as it relates to yoga asana
Practice Skills
  • Demonstrate proficiency in 25 standard yoga postures by practicing each with appropriate anatomical organization and alignment relative to one’s own body structure, capacity, and experience level
  • Demonstrate an accessible practice of 25 standard yoga postures by applying accessible modifications that provide appropriate ease, support, or stability based on individual needs and context
  • Demonstrate 25 yoga postures by applying appropriate advanced variations or progressions that increase challenge while maintaining safety, control, and anatomical integrity
  • Practice ujjayi and dirga pranayama with appropriate technique, rhythm, and awareness, demonstrating understanding of their distinct purposes and effects within yoga practice
  • Articulate and explain how vinyasa methodology informs sequencing, pacing, breath coordination, and alignment principles by describing the relationship between movement, breath, and intentional progression within a given yoga style.
Yoga History & Theory
  • Identify the roots of modern vinyasa describing the transition from static hatha to the krishnamacharya lineage and the development of "breath-to-movement" vinyasa flow.
Lifestyle & Ethics
  • Develop confidence to inquire and explore your practice demonstrating confidence to inquire into and explore their own practice using foundational tools and resources

AYC allows each school to state and evaluate the competencies each student acquires. Students rate how well the program delivered them.
