Ann Stevens, C-IAYT, E-RYT500, is a yoga therapist, educator, and founder of Studio Bamboo Institute of Yoga. She specializes in adaptive, trauma-informed, and oncology yoga, working in studio and clinical settings to make yoga accessible for all bodies.
Ann Stevens is a yoga therapist, educator, and founder of Studio Bamboo Institute of Yoga (est. 2009), where she leads classes, workshops, and teacher trainings designed to support both abled and differently abled students. With over two decades of experience training teachers (since 2001), Ann has dedicated her career to making yoga accessible, inclusive, and transformative.
For the past 15 years, Ann has served as the yoga therapist for the Wounded Warrior Battalion East at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, working with wounded, ill, and injured U.S. Marines. Ann specializes in oncology yoga and teaches in hospital and clinical settings, for individuals in recover from cancer or going through cancer treatment. Being awestruck as to how the body works led her to her hearts work in adaptive/accessible yoga and students with neurological conditions (such as MS, MD, and stroke recovery), orthopedic challenges, amputations, and those who are wheelchair users.
As a certified yoga therapist, Ann offers therapeutic, trauma-informed, adaptive, and oncology-specific yoga, as well as mindfulness, meditation, and breathwork programs. Her work bridges traditional yoga practices with the growing field of evidence-based integrative healthcare, often collaborating with medical professionals to create individualized care plans. These programs have helped patients improve sleep, reduce chronic pain, manage stress and anxiety, and actively participate in their healing journey.
Ann is passionate about transforming traditional yoga modalities to meet the needs of today’s diverse populations. With deep respect for biodiversity and a keen eye for biomechanics, she continually develops innovative applications of yoga that support both individuals and groups. Her holistic approach not only complements medical treatment but also empowers students to foster resilience, self-awareness, and long-term wellness.
