I have taught more than 4,000 hours of alignment-based yoga in the tradition of TKV Desikachar as taught by Paola Feher at her Bozeman Center for the Healing Arts.
Bio
I began teaching yoga in 2002, and since then have taught over 4,500 hours. I received Yoga Alliance registration in 2005. Most of my yoga studies have been with Paola Feher at Bozeman Center for the Healing Arts in the tradition of TKV Desikachar, which puts adaptation for students at the heart of the class. I concluded a two-year program leading to YA’s 500-hour Experienced-Registered Yoga Teacher designation in 2020. Other continuing education has included work at Duke University in yoga for seniors in 2005 with an online update in 2024, with Elise Browning-Miller in Texas and California in 2007 for yoga for scoliosis, and online with Loren Fishman on yoga for scoliosis in 2020 and osteoporosis in 2022.
Practicing alignment-based yoga is the core of my teaching. However, changes in our knowledge of human fascia since the first International Fascia Research Conference in 2007 occurred even as I began studying and doing massage (2008). Keeping up with fascia research as applied to movement and tissue health informs how I teach. As part of that, in 2024, I completed work as a fascial fitness trainer, even though I have no intention of working as a trainer. Continuing readings about how the human brain and body adapt because of our use of them have led me to appreciate that, though we cannot control aging, we can profoundly influence how we age in order to lead our “best life.”
Starting as a secretary, then writer and photographer, in 1998 I took my first yoga class at age 49 as physical therapy for migraines and neck and shoulder pain. It has become my profession. Though I am not a registered yoga therapist, I am experienced in adapting yoga poses to help people with a broad range of physical limitations. I look forward to teaching each class and each student.
