Indra Devi (born Eugenie Peterson, 1899–2002) was a Russian-born yoga master who became a celebrated "First Lady of Yoga," instrumental in spreading yoga in the Western world. As the first female pupil of Sri Tirumalai Krishnamacharya, she taught yoga to movie stars and world leaders, opened studios in India, China, the U.S., and South America, and founded Indra Devi Foundation in Argentina. Her approach focused on a secular, accessible yoga for modern living, emphasizing relaxation, mindfulness, and inner peace.
