My yoga journey started (of all places) –in a gym. I was talked into going into a class, having no clue what it was. I liked it but found the gymnastics part of it was not really for me. It was not horrible, just with not a lot of consideration for those who could not do a handstand easily. I did go to some more classes, and eventually through friends found myself going to classes at a local yoga studio.
I loved the atmosphere, the rituals, the actual physical building in Chicago. It was quite a respite from the hustle of the city. I had two extensive foot surgeries during this period, and yoga was really instrumental in helping gain strength and mobility in my right foot and leg. I also completed my LMT during this time.
My life did not lend itself to a real daily practice or so I thought! Eventually, I volunteered at a well-known studio in Chicago. I worked the desk and in doing so, I was able to take free classes.
A few years went by and I moved to south of downtown Chicago. I started a very intense rigidly structured YTT. I did almost the entire program and realized the way the program was taught, mainly through memorization, was not for me. It was a huge disappointment. Then timing wise due to the virus in 2020 I was not working. I found Steph’s program and it seemed like a gift! I am so fortunate that my journey ended up here. I am continuing my studies and would like to volunteer in the yoga field. I’m a yoga instructor, though forever a student, Reiki practitioner, and mainly a live event facilitator. After years in television and film production, I found my passion in creating spaces where people can reduce stress, restore balance, and feel empowered. Through Spirit Align, I offer advice and production help with wellness experiences, and healing practices that nurture the mind, body, and spirit.
