Owner of
Inner Mountain Institute
Yoga and meditation teacher, teacher trainer, yoga therapist, dharma coach, dancer, singer, story-teller. Founder of Inner Mountain Institute, dedicated to supporting students on an inward journey of healing and discovery, leading to outward radiance and thriving in the world.
Mary began meditating at 15, discovered yoga at 20, and jumped into daily Astanga practice in 1980 (before yoga mats!). She began teaching the following year. She has studied with inspired teachers of various traditions since then. With deep gratitude, she has found her path in Tantric Hatha Yoga and is honored to be part of a Sri Vidya lineage of the Himalayan Masters.
Mary first experienced Tantric Hatha Yoga in 2004 with Rod Stryker, and immediately knew that this work would change her life profoundly. She received her 500 hour certification through ParaYoga, became a level III teacher, and joined the ParaYoga Faculty, guiding students towards certification. She now continues her journey studying under Pandit Rajmani Tigunait of the Himalayan Institute.
In asana, Mary skillfully weaves together breath, alignment principles, and therapeutic practices. She views the physical practice as a way to honor the temple of the body, while preparing for the deeper inner practices of pranayama and meditation. Mary credits her meditation practice with the most profound changes in her life and is passionate about sharing the gift of meditation. Her goal is to meet students wherever they are, and empower them forward on their unique journey, towards greater capacity and joy.
In addition to being certified E-RYT 500, Mary is certified in Vishoka Meditation® and Yoga Therapy. She leads teacher trainings, workshops, and meditation courses; mentors budding yoga teachers; and has worked extensively in small groups and one on one to guide students on the journey of uncovering and claiming their unique purpose.
Mary is an artist. With an MFA in dance, her dance career informed her understanding of the body as a vessel of energy. She has also performed as a singer and a storyteller; has taught art to children; and has worked in ceramics and stone. She sees the creative impulse as a source of joy and a way to experience the eternal truth that is behind all of creation.
