Ramana Maharshi (1879–1950) was an Indian sage who, after a profound spiritual awakening at 16, abandoned his worldly life to reside at the holy mountain Arunachala, living in seclusion and silence before attracting followers. His teachings emphasized the path of self-enquiry, particularly the question "Who am I?", as a means to realize the true Self and attain Self-awareness. His life culminated in the establishment of an ashram at Arunachala, where he continued to inspire spiritual seekers until his death in 1950.
