Swami Rama (1925–1996) was an Indian yogi and spiritual master who brought the Himalayan Tradition to the West, founding the Himalayan Institute in 1971. Raised by a Himalayan sage, he received intensive yogic training in India and Tibet before becoming the Shankaracharya of Karvirpitham. He later came to the U.S. in 1969, where he conducted scientific research on yoga and body-mind connections, authored numerous books, and gained fame for his mastery of yoga nidra.
