Swami Vivekananda (born Narendranath Datta in 1863) was an influential Indian Hindu monk, spiritual leader, and reformer who introduced Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world. After his guru Ramakrishna's death, he toured India and then presented Hinduism at the 1893 World's Parliament of Religions in Chicago, where his speech captivated the audience. He founded the Ramakrishna Mission and Math, which serve the poor and uphold his vision of synthesizing Eastern spiritual wisdom with Western progress.
