Tamara Y. Jeffries is an evidence-based yoga instructor, mindfulness teacher, and journalist with more than three decades of experience covering health and wellness, including as Executive Editor at Essence, Senior Editor at Yoga Journal, and contributing editor at Health. She completed yoga teacher training at Triad Yoga Institute in 2013, meditation teacher training with the Open Heart Project in 2020, Intuitive Eating peer training in 2024, and Duke University’s Certificate Program in Nutrition Strategies for Lifelong Health and Wellness in 2026. She serves on the Black Yoga Teachers Alliance advisory board and has advised the Yoga Alliance Standards Review Project. Tamara pairs current research with time-tested practice, offering yoga, meditation, Intuitive Eating and mindful-lifestyle approaches that are accessible, affirming, and grounded in both science and traditional wisdom. She is on faculty at Bennett College, where she teaches journalism and yoga. She also teaches yoga with the SAFE Yoga program based in Greensboro.

Tamara has published research on Alice Coltrane/Turyiasangitanana’s role as a yogi and vedantic leader in Black Women and Public Health (SUNY Press, 2022) and has presented on the subject of yoga, diversity, and health at conferences around the country.
