Acro Yoga and Thai Massage

AcroYoga + Thai Massage Workshop: Partner Acrobatics, Therapeutic Touch, and Trust-Building

Who this is for

This workshop is for couples seeking connection through movement partners, close friends, or family members practicing as pairs. Perfect for total beginners with no acro or massage experience, as well as experienced yogis curious about partner work. All body types, fitness levels, and 16+ welcome. You don't need flexibility, strength, or prior training, just curiosity, willingness to communicate, and an open mind. Ideal for couples wanting tools to support each other physically and build trust

Benefits

Students will learn practical skills in two complementary modalities: AcroYoga (partner acrobatics that builds trust, communication, and playfulness) and Thai Massage (therapeutic techniques to relieve tension in neck, shoulders, hips, low back). Beyond physical skills, participants gain tools for clearer communication under pressure, embodied trust-building, and supportive touch they can practice at home. Partners leave with deeper connection, stress relief, improved body awareness.

What to expect

- Welcome & Foundation Setting (10 minutes): Class begins with introductions, safety guidelines, and consent practices essential for partner work. We establish communication protocols—how to ask for what you need, how to offer modifications, and how to respect boundaries throughout the workshop. Brief discussion of the two modalities we'll explore (AcroYoga and Thai Massage) and how they complement each other in building trust, connection, and therapeutic support between partners. Overview of body mechanics and alignment principles relevant to both acrobatics and massage work.

- AcroYoga Foundations Part 1: Spotting & Ground Work (20 minutes): Introduction to the three roles in AcroYoga—base (person on the ground providing support), flyer (person being lifted or suspended), and spotter (person ensuring safety). We practice proper spotting techniques, hand placements, and communication cues. Partners explore weight-sharing on the ground before any lifting occurs, learning how to support and be supported safely. Foundational shapes include front plank on feet, folded leaf (supported forward fold), and throne (seated pose where flyer sits on base's feet). Emphasis on body mechanics, alignment, and building trust through clear verbal and physical communication. Each partner experiences both supporting and being supported.

- AcroYoga Foundations Part 2: Flying & Balance (25 minutes): Progress into basic flying shapes where base supports flyer's weight fully. We practice bird pose (flyer lying horizontally on base's feet), star (flyer in wide-armed balance), and folded-to-extended transitions. Each shape includes multiple entry and exit options, modifications for different body proportions, and variations for comfort. Focus on breath synchronization, trust-building through sustained shapes, and playful exploration within safe parameters. Partners switch roles (base and flyer) to experience both perspectives and develop empathy for each position's unique challenges and sensations. Instruction includes troubleshooting common difficulties and adapting shapes for individual needs.

- Partner Thai Massage Foundations (30 minutes): Transition from acrobatics to therapeutic touch. Introduction to Thai massage principles—working with sen lines (energy pathways), using body weight rather than muscle strength, and maintaining practitioner body mechanics for sustainability. Partners learn therapeutic stretching sequences for common tension areas: neck and shoulder releases using supported traction and gentle mobilization; hip opening sequences including supine figure-four and reclined pigeon variations; low back decompression through gentle spinal twists and knee-to-chest holds; and leg and IT band work using compression and stretching techniques. Each technique includes instruction on pressure calibration—how to ask for and offer appropriate depth, how to read partner's responses, and how to modify for comfort. All work is floor-based, fully clothed, no oils required, and designed for home practice accessibility. Partners alternate giving and receiving.

- Integration, Cool-Down & Q&A (5 minutes): Gentle closing sequence to integrate the experience, allowing partners to rest together in supported savasana or comfortable seated position. Brief discussion of how to continue practicing at home—frequency recommendations, safety reminders, and ways to incorporate these tools into daily life for stress relief and connection. Open Q&A for any questions about techniques, modifications, or ongoing practice. Students are encouraged to take photos of key shapes (with permission) for home reference and exchange contact information with other couples if they wish to continue practicing together beyond the workshop.
