What to expect

– January 15 – Arrival in Tanzania
Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfer to our boutique hotel in Moshi. In the evening we gather for a welcome dinner and a gentle Yin yoga practice to settle into the rhythm of the journey.

– January 16 – Arrival & Rest
A relaxed day to recover from travel with time by the pool, optional yoga, and the opportunity to visit Children of Kilimanjaro Orphanage (COKO).

– January 17 – Kilimanjaro
A guided full-day hike on Mount Kilimanjaro to Mandara Hut, the first hut along the Marangu Route. Guests may also choose a restorative day at the hotel with yoga, massage, and quiet time by the pool.

– January 18 – Village Traditions
Travel into the Kilimanjaro countryside for a hike to Materuni Waterfall followed by a traditional coffee experience and local lunch. In the afternoon we continue to a peaceful eco-retreat in the Kilimanjaro region, where we settle in for the next few days of the journey. In the evening we gather for a sunset yoga session in the retreat’s boma-style shala.

– January 19 – Maasai Culture
A morning walk through the Maasai community offers time with a young Maasai warrior who shares stories of tradition and daily life. We also meet Maasai women and spend time inside a traditional boma, offering a glimpse into everyday life in the village. After lunch, the afternoon is open to enjoy time at the retreat, including a complimentary massage for each guest. In the evening we gather around the fire for a drumming circle.

– January 20 – Food & Craft Traditions
Begin the day with a guided visit to the bustling outdoor market in Moshi, gathering fresh ingredients with a local Chagga guide. Later, we divide into smaller groups to enjoy a traditional cooking experience with Chagga hosts and visit local fabric shops and tailors. Guests may choose their own fabric and be fitted for a custom garment by a local tailor.

– January 21 – Journey to the Highlands
We depart the Kilimanjaro region and travel toward the Ngorongoro Highlands, stopping in Arusha to visit Shanga, a social enterprise that employs people with disabilities to create beautiful handmade crafts. We enjoy lunch at Arusha Coffee Lodge, set among lush gardens on a working coffee plantation, before continuing through the highlands to our lodge near Karatu, the gateway to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

– January 22 – Ngorongoro Crater Safari
A full-day safari exploring the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most extraordinary wildlife ecosystems in Africa. In the evening we arrive at our tented safari camp in the Ndutu region.

– January 23 – Entering the Serengeti
Travel across the plains into the Serengeti and settle into our luxury safari lodge. This time of year often coincides with the Great Migration calving season, when vast herds of wildebeest gather on the southern Serengeti plains.

– January 24–25 – Serengeti Wildlife Safaris
Morning and afternoon wildlife safaris across the vast Serengeti plains, with time to relax and enjoy the lodge. Optional yoga sessions will be offered by Laura and Patti, and spa services are available at the lodge for guests who wish to book treatments.

– January 26 – Return to Arusha
A bush flight from Serengeti Seronera brings us back to Arusha. After settling into our hotel, we visit the Cultural Heritage Center, home to one of East Africa’s most impressive collections of local art, Tanzanite jewelry, and museum exhibits and galleries celebrating the art, craftsmanship, and heritage of East Africa. The evening is open to relax and reflect on the journey.

– January 27 – Arusha & Closing Celebration
Our final full day offers time to relax in Arusha, nestled on the slopes of Mount Meru, enjoying the pool and reflecting on the journey we have shared. In the evening we gather for a farewell dinner and closing celebration with music, shared stories, and the much-anticipated dress reveal from earlier in the journey.

– January 28 – Departure
We will transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for departing flights.
