The Yoga of Sound
How Sound Healing Works
Who this is for
This workshop is for yoga students, teachers and anyone curious about the use of sound in yoga, meditation and relaxation practices. No prior experience with sound healing is required. Yoga teachers will gain additional context for safely and intentionally incorporating sound, mantra and simple sound-based practices into classes.
Benefits
Students will learn how sound, vibration, rhythm and focused listening can influence attention, relaxation and the overall yoga experience. They will explore the basic science behind sound, participate in practical sound-based exercises and experience a guided sound bath. Yoga teachers will also gain ideas for incorporating sound into classes with greater intention.
What to expect
The Science of Sound: Explore the basics of sound waves, vibration, frequency, pitch and resonance, and how sound travels through the environment and is perceived by the body and brain.
Sound, Attention & Relaxation: Discuss how rhythm, repetition, focused listening and sound can influence attention, breathing and the experience of relaxation. We will also look at what current research does—and does not—tell us about sound healing.
Yoga, Mantra & Traditional Sound Practices: Explore the historical use of sound within yoga, including mantra, chanting and repetition, and discuss ways these practices differ from modern sound-bath experiences.
Experiential Sound Practices: Participate in simple vocal, mantra, listening and vibration-based exercises designed to help participants directly experience the effects of sound and silence.
Guided Sound Bath & Integration: Conclude with a restorative sound experience using crystal singing bowls, followed by quiet integration, reflection and practical discussion for students and yoga teachers.
