Purpose

The purpose of Prana Academy’s Sling Yoga Teacher Training is to develop knowledgeable, confident and safety-conscious instructors who can skillfully teach aerial sling yoga while integrating anatomy, breathwork, nervous-system awareness, yogic principles and intentional class design. Graduates leave prepared to create safe, inclusive and transformative experiences while developing an authentic teaching style of their own.

What to expect

This immersive training combines education, personal practice, hands-on learning, teaching methodology and practical application.

Students explore aerial anatomy with particular attention to scapular function, core activation, body mechanics, alignment and injury prevention. Training in equipment and rigging safety includes sling setup, carabiners, daisy chains, kinetic force and working-load considerations.

Students study and practice a library of 71 aerial yoga asanas, learning proper engagement, alignment, modifications, transitions and ways to adapt movement for different students and skill levels.

Training also includes class sequencing, cueing, learning styles, teaching methodology, pranayama, the Eight Limbs of Yoga, meditation, nervous-system awareness and mind-body connection.

Students move between learning and doing throughout the program—practicing techniques, exploring sequences, developing classes and learning how to confidently guide others.

The program also addresses the professional side of becoming an instructor, including strategies for structuring, pricing and promoting Sling Yoga classes.

Students complete the experience with practical teaching knowledge, continued access to training resources and a framework they can use to continue developing their skills after certification.

Style/Lineage

Prana Academy’s Sling Yoga Teacher Training is rooted in the belief that yoga is more than movement—it is a practice of self-awareness, connection, growth and learning to work intelligently with the body, breath and mind.

Our teaching style blends traditional yogic foundations—including the Eight Limbs of Yoga, pranayama, meditation and mindful movement—with modern aerial sling techniques, functional anatomy, fascia awareness and nervous-system-informed practices.

Using the sling as both a supportive tool and an opportunity to explore movement differently, students learn to build strength, mobility, body awareness and confidence while honoring individual bodies and abilities.

The Prana Method is central to our approach. Rather than teaching poses alone, we train instructors to understand the person inside the pose. Students explore breath, nervous-system awareness, intentional movement, stillness and mind-body connection alongside safe aerial technique.

Our goal is to develop instructors who can teach safe, creative and meaningful Sling Yoga classes while discovering their own authentic teaching voice. Graduates leave prepared not simply to reproduce sequences, but to thoughtfully create experiences that support the students in front of them.

Additional Information

This training is designed for certified yoga instructors wishing to expand their teaching, dedicated yoga practitioners interested in becoming Sling Yoga instructors, and fitness or movement professionals interested in safely incorporating aerial techniques into their work.

Students should bring comfortable, form-fitting clothing appropriate for aerial practice, a water bottle, notebook and pen.

Training materials include a comprehensive Sling Yoga training manual, anatomy resources and lifetime access to Prana Academy’s online training video library.

Students may train through in-person, live-online or approved hybrid formats depending on the scheduled program.

Because safe aerial instruction requires both knowledge and demonstrated competency, successful completion of the program requires active participation in training, practical application of the material and demonstration of safe teaching principles before certification is awarded.

Payment arrangements and specific training schedules may vary by training location and program format.

  • Create a student-screening and risk-response plan for an aerial sling class that addresses disclosed conditions, dizziness, pain, fear, pregnancy or other contraindications, emergency response, modification, and referral when appropriate.
  • How We Live
  • Describe the professional responsibilities of an aerial sling instructor, including inclusion, confidentiality, personal regulation, equipment stewardship, and ethical student relationships with specific examples of how each responsibility will be upheld before, during, and after class.
Practice Skills
  • Nervous System Awareness
  • Practice breathwork, meditation, restorative sling, and nervous-system down-regulation techniques taught in the program using stable positioning, unforced breath, appropriate pacing, and at least one intentional recovery or stillness practice without prompting.
Teaching Skills
  • Design by scanning the room continuously, securing consent, selecting an appropriate alternative, and intervening promptly when a student or equipment condition is unsafe. with logical progression, clear timing, safe transitions, regressions and contraindications, breath integration, and a balance of forward bend, backbend, twist, peak experience, and restoration.
  • Putting it All Together
  • Cue aerial sling grips, wraps, entries, exits, breath patterns, and transitions using concise action-based language, correct directional and body-part cues, fear-friendly phrasing, and sufficient time for students to respond without relying on physical assistance.
  • Guide multi-level students through safe spotting, verbal assistance, regressions, progressions, and emergency exits by scanning the room continuously, securing consent, selecting an appropriate alternative, and intervening promptly when a student or equipment condition is unsafe.
Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics
  • Applied Anatomy & Biomechanics for Sling Yoga
  • Identify biomechanical risks, breath responses, nervous-system responses, contraindications, and appropriate modifications for aerial sling students by correctly evaluating presented scenarios and selecting a safe response, regression, exit, or referral within the instructor's scope of practice.
  • the role and importance of the posterior chain in supported, suspended, weight-bearing, and inverted Aerial Sling movements
Yoga History & Theory
  • Describe the development of aerial sling yoga from traditional yoga props, ropes, inversion supports, and suspension-based movement into a modern sling-supported practice including at least three historical influences or developments and an explanation of how the sling is used as a yoga prop.

Students are evaluated through an open-book written final exam, direct observation, peer feedback, supervised teaching experience, and a final practical teaching assessment.

Certification requires successful completion of required observation, assisting, and public teaching hours, along with demonstration of safe sling setup, appropriate cueing, class sequencing, contraindication awareness, breath and nervous-system integration, and the ability to guide a complete Sling Yoga class safely from start to finish.

Students receive feedback throughout the training and must demonstrate competency in both knowledge and practical teaching skills before certification is awarded.

AYC Evaluations
