Purpose

The purpose to this program is to learn the roots of yoga and how it has come to be practice for 1000's of years helping humans find ease, peace, balance, and a recognition of the guru within.

What to expect

This course is carried out of 9 months meeting one weekend a month. In between weekend, participants practice was it taught each weekend building a vast platform of knowledge and insight that, once the 9th month is completed, all recognized the extensive and powerful changes that have occurred in their lives.

Style/Lineage

The 'essence of yoga' CYP program is a multi-lineage based program that establishes as broad foundation for growth as a yoga practitioner and teacher. The participants gain and vast understanding of the history of yoga, the 8 limbs of practice, the lineages and what the roots are of each, and much more. Participants complete this program ready to advance on to the next levels with ease, confidence, and excitement.

Additional Information

Participants will complete the 9 weekends over 9 months, classes that are to be used as experience in watching how Diana incorporates all that is taught, specialty workshops to enhance all that is learned, and all is done in a supportive community. Payment plans are available for this course if needed.

Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics
  • Identify anatomical structures including muscles, bones, joints, vital organs by describing their functions, and position/locations related to the body and each other
  • Breakdown anatomical structures of the body and their functions including the major joints and the muscles responsible for their actions, lines of fascia and connective tissue
  • Explain mechanical movements and how they function or dysfunction together by describing the role of the spiral, anterior, posterior, and lateral lines in the body and how they are affected by misalignment
Business Skills
  • Create a clear and concise marketing plan consisting of social media, website, emails/newsletters with transparent and truthful content
  • Describe your scope of practice and code of conduct as a yoga teacher including how to acquire insurance, mitigate legal liability, and creating an "informed consent" form
Practice Skills
  • Demonstrate asana from the curriculum effectively with balanced alignment and using basic pranayama effectively
  • Discuss the practice of asana describing its purpose, benefits, associated breath practice, and a detailed breakdown of alignment
  • Practice multiple asana and ways of practicing them with variations, modifactions, and programing " with proper posture, alignment, and understanding
  • Practice multiple pranayama techniques with proper posture, breath mechanics, pacing and breath count
Lifestyle & Ethics
  • Explain how each of the eight limbs of yoga is intertwined into a practice by listing their definitions, sanskrit names, and methods of practicing each limb on and off the mat
Teaching Skills
  • Apply clear instructions cueing clear and safe instructions while offering support and guidance
  • Teach safe and effective group and private sessions with proper cueing, visual demonstration when needed, with consideration for sudents and their well-being.
Yoga History & Theory
  • Discuss the bhagavad gita and the yoga sutras including key ideas, historical context, and typical practices. as well as identifying 8 limbs and the three practices of karma, bhakti, and jnana yoga
  • Discuss the first 2 limbs of patanjali's yoga by definining each of the 5 yamas and 5 niyamas, correctly pronouncing their sanskrit names, and citing examples on how to practice them on and off the mat

AYC allows each school to state and evaluate the competencies each student acquires. Students rate how well the program delivered them.

Through the course, students will learn through instruction by Diana and work together in groups to learn and explore these competencies. Each student will complete a written exam at the end of the course that will cover these lessons and each student will present and 30 minute project that covers a topic they choose to research.
