Purpose

For Yoga Educators and teachers who are looking for a deeper understanding of the hip and pelvis

What to expect

During this course we take a journey specific to our hips. As we know the hips are the

emotional energy center of our body and we want to assure that what we guide people

to experience during the hip opening sequences on their mat can be translated into their

everyday activities offering greater, controlled range of motion, freedom and ease. The

Capacity Cycle offers a Systematic approach to optimize ROM of the hips by

strengthening new ranges of motion, improving mobility and enhancing control in these

new ranges of motion.

“By the end of this course you will:

• Understand what mobility is and how to access it in the hips in a safe and effective

way.

• Gain insight to the role of the nervous system in this process

• Learn how to integrate your entire body combined with intentional breath patterns to

support the goal of the movement

• Discover new techniques to infuse into your classes during your hip opening session

that will support longevity and

• What The Capacity Cycle is and how to integrate it into your class.

Style/Lineage

“Hello and Welcome to The Capacity Cycle: for Hips. As we lead our Vinyasa Yoga

classes, we guide people through a journey that builds resilience and stamina in the

body and the ability to increase our capacity to access greater range of motion in your

physical body and to stay calm and clear during situations of every day life ( Hence the

Capacity Cycle!) . These skills are not confined to the yoga mat, they are meant to spill

off our mat and make positive impacts in your life!

Core competencies

By the end of this program, graduates will be able to…

Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics
  • Examine how each hip action connects to adjacent joints so that movement patterns are taught as a whole system
  • Describe how fascia connects muscles, tendons, and bones into one system so that students understand integrated movement
  • Analyze how daily posture habits influence the stretch reflex sensitivity so that students connect lifestyle to movement outcomes
  • Apply all three contraction types within hip opening drills so that students experience and learn the differences
Practice Skills
  • Apply irradiation cues during hip opening sequences so that students create a stable body frame before entering range of motion
  • Describe how each phase builds on the last to increase safe range of motion so that students understand the progression
  • Apply Phase One isometric holds at multiple hip angles during class so that students build strength at new end ranges
  • Apply Phase Two movement drills to target hip actions during class so that students develop active control
  • Apply Phase Three integrated sequences during class so that students experience connected, flowing hip movement
  • Apply mobility-focused language and cues during hip sequences so that students pursue usable range of motion
  • Describe how breath patterns signal the nervous system to shift between stress and rest states so that students understand breath as a tool
Lifestyle & Ethics
  • Identify the core requirements of American Yoga Council Level 1 certification so that the standards are clearly understood
  • Identify the boundaries of a yoga teacher's scope of practice so that instruction remains within appropriate professional limits
  • Identify the importance of personal practice in maintaining teaching authenticity so that the relationship between practice and instruction is understood
Teaching Skills
  • Describe how word choice affects student experience and nervous system response so that cues are chosen intentionally
  • Identify the challenges of guiding Capacity Cycle work in a group class setting so that realistic expectations are set
  • Apply prop suggestions consistently during hip opening instruction so that every student has an appropriate variation
Yoga History & Theory
  • Identify Pranayama as the fourth limb of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras so that its place in yoga philosophy is understood
Business Skills
  • Apply the Capacity Cycle framework to develop a series format that can be offered as a paid program so that the methodology becomes a revenue stream
  • Describe how to communicate the benefits of functional movement yoga to prospective students so that messaging resonates with modern wellness seekers
  • Identify the factors that contribute to student retention in a specialty yoga series so that program design supports ongoing engagement

AYC allows each school to state and evaluate the competencies each student acquires. Students rate how well the program delivered them.

Program Emphasis

Evaluation methods

Program evaluations
Evaluation within this program is experiential and reflective rather than exam-based. Competencies are assessed through direct observation, guided participation, facilitated group dialogue, and individual reflection throughout the immersive experience. Participants demonstrate learning through embodied practice, lived application of philosophical principles, and integration of insights shared within a group setting. Assessment methods include direct observation during movement and integration sessions, solo reflective projects, and verbal articulation of learning during facilitated discussions. This approach reflects the embodied and integrative nature of the training and supports meaningful, applied learning.
